Platen roller is slipping

Hi. The platen roller is not turning when I turn the knob. The knob just slips. Does anyone know if this is just a question of tightening a screw or something more serious going on? Thank you.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. Alas, it was a mere question of tightening some screws on the platen knobs. That's why it was slipping. Thanks for the thoughts.

SOURCE: Need to clean the platen

IF you can't get the platen roller out, then what you can do is get a cleaner called " GOO GONE". Take a rag or paper towel, and pour some of the goo gone on the rag where the labels are located. IMPORTANT PART: You want enough Goo Gone on the rag so you can saturate the label. I have even CAREFULLY poured some Goo Gone right from the container onto the label.
Just don't go crazy with the Goo Gone.... You do not want to pour sooooo much onto the platen roller where it drips down it the frame of the machine and possibly onto the main board.
REMEMBER.... Just enough to saturate the label.

After the label is saturated.... WAIT AT LEAST 3 minutes. I usually wait closer to 5 minutes, and then you will notice that the label can be easily pulled away from the platen.
After all of the labels are removed, go over the entire platen with the Rag with Goo gone, and then go over it again with a clean dry rag.

I hope this works for you as well as it has worked for my customers.
Good luck.
Mac =)

Have a Nakajima AE-710 typewriter and roller knob is broken-- cannot turn roller with knob. Please let me know if this is something we can order. Thanks!

I googled the part on the internet and saw a number of them available. I only looked at the first few results and found them priced from around $12 to $30 . Amazon had the widest price range. If you google "Nakajima Platen Knob" a number of results turn up. The Nakajima's were made by Swintec (or vice-versa) so the Swintec platen knobs are interchangable.
Hope this helps

Hi, the spool or round handle that one turns to move the paper up or down manually has been stripped by other users of our typewriter. When we turn it, it does grasp the gear to turn the platen. Hope I...

I don't have one of these to look at right now but, many models were secured with an Alan screw (or two) through the plastic, locking the knob to the platen shaft. If your has Alan screws, tighten them. I have seen knobs that cracked and if that's the case, your best bet would be epoxy.Best of luck,RonIf this helps you, PLEASE log back on to this webpage and leave comment. Craftsman 315.117150. The belt keeps sliding off, as soon as turned on and start to sand. It seems to be on correctly.

You need to adjust the tracking knob which is by the front handle that looks like a triangle head screw. Make sure the belt tension leaver is tight and the belt has enough tension on it. Quickly press and release the start switch and note the centering of the belt. It should be in the center of the bottom platen. If it is not, adjust the tracking knob and bump the switch again. If the belt is going in the wrong direction turn the knob the other direction. Once you are close the center of the platen, press the power switch to turn the unit on and lock the trigger. Firmly hold the unit vertically from the front handle. Fine adjust the tension knob to center the belt and make sure the belt is not hitting the case which will cause damage. You should be able to use the belt sander without the belt slipping off. Let the sander do the work, do not push down and limit the side to side motion. If the belt will not stay on then the belt is too large or the torsion spring needs to be adjusted to applying more tension on the belt and drive roller.

The walking belt jars when running fast. Also I want to know how to lubricate it. Anyone with a manual? Please help?

Follow the directions below to determine what is slipping. You also can get a copy of your manual by going to and downloading one from the manuals tab. Here are the directions for testing the slipping problem.

* take nail polish or paint and place a mark starting on the front roller pulley and going onto the front roller metal shaft
* then try to walk on it and see if the white mark separates
* if it does then the roller is bad and would need replaced or tap screws placed through the pulley into the metal shaft to hold it in place
* if it doesn't separate then the drive belt is slipping and most likely will need replaced, although you could try spraying belt dressing on it to see if that would be a temporary fix.
* if neither of these is your problem and the walk belt is slipping then you will need to try to adjust the screws in the back of the treadmill through the end caps. these are allen wrench screws.
Tighten each one the same amount such as 1 full turn to start with.
see if you can now walk without it slipping.
If not then tighten 1-2 more turn on both sides.
If after 2-3 full turns it is not tight enough
I would recommend replacing the walk belt.

Hopefully this helps with your problem!

There is probably a little plastic hubcap on the knob. You can pop that off with a butterknife. Underneath there should be a screw. If that screw is very loose, tighten it and it may solve your problem. If it almost fixes it, but you can't turn the knob very hard before it slips again, then remove the screw and use a pair of pliers to carefully turn the shaft that the knob was on. If that is not the problem - (which means the knob was NOT slipping on the shaft) then the valve will have to be taken apart or replaced. Make sure you turn the water off (upstream) before you attempt to take the valve apart.

Brother GX6750 typewriter correcting on wrong line

It sound like either the operator is turning the roller (platen) to see where you should correct..or the linespace mechanism is turning the roller from the line of type.Perhaps the detent (by the line space selector lever is set to 0 instead of 1, 1 1/2 or 2

The line of type is important that is stays and not drifts. Tighten the platen knob if the screw in..right to tighten left to loosen.
Hope this helps

Paper advance

The paper release lever may be in the release mode. try holding the left platen knob and pulling lightly on the paper is should not allow the paper to move freely, if it is ok try holding the left knob and turning the right knob in the direction you would to turn the paper in it may have come loose if so turn it all the way back in do not over tighten it your machine does not click when the platen is turned it uses electronics to hold the platen on line.
