No sound on Recorder

I'm a real novice. I've bought a Toshiba DVD/VCR recorder RD-XV47KB (through the post so can't just go back to dealer) I've gone through the initial set-up and the picture's fine but there's no sound. I can't find any explanation in the manual - can anyone help? Thanks Sam

Try pushing in firmly the two scart connectors at the back of the recorder. Sometimes if loose, there can ba a loss of sound due to no connection.

I have the same unit and mine works fine. I can only suggest the obvious and check all of your connections.

You might have accidently set it to one of the special sound settings such as dolby or DTS. Bring up the main menu and look for the sound menu.

Sound but no picture

Your player has several outputs and you might want to start with the basic Video Audo Left Right output first.

Set your with your plazma to see if you can change the input types to accept the video and audio input which will probably be labeled AV 1, AV 2 and so on.

My guess is that you have it set for Component Red Blue Green which his a high def (just before HTMI) and requires a separate audio cable. Your player, depending on the age of the unit, probably will not have Red Blue Green picture output.

Next if you have an HTMI output from your player hook that to your Plazma in the HDMI 1 position and select it on the TV's setting. Audio and Video are both carried in the HDMI cable.

Good luck, my name is Eric Kirkhuff

Toshiba dvd player not reading Taiyo yuden blank media

It is probably the player that is dirty or scratched, You will have to buy a lense cleaner kit usually no more than $30, similar to cleaning the heads on a vcr. If that does not work then you will prob have to get it professionly cleaned.
