Memory error I took many photos, and even previoulsy managed to successfully download them to my computer. A few days ago, I got a Memory Error message, and am now not able to see any of the photos I took. Can I somehow retrieve these photos, and how do I solve the Memory Error problem, to continue using the camera please? Thanks

SOURCE: my pentax k100d has a memory card error

Trun the camera off and remove the batteries. Leave it for at least a minute before inserting the batteries. Put the car in and turn the camera on.

The firmware in these cameras can get confused. Removing the batteries for a minuite or two will allow the camera circuits to discharge and so it will reset from start when powered-up again.

If this does not work then the camera may need to be sent away for repair. This need not be expensive it could be as simple as re-programming the camera. (Their program memory is writeable and so it can be accidentally altered under certian circunstsances. It may be possible to do this yourself using the downloadable firmware upgrade, but I would let someone else try thet first!)

However, it is just possible that the new card is also faulty!

Check the cards in your PC by obtaining a SD card reader to allow you to plug it directly into your PC.

For reference I would always recommend inserting and removing memory cards with the camera turned off. I would also use the SD card reader to load the images into the PC. Unplugging devices form the USB port can be harmful to some devices. Check the bottom right of your PC screen for an 'safe unplug' icon when things are plugged in.

instead of quick format, use the full format.  Then put back in your camera and format again with the camera.

Memory Error

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5 cant upload photos!!

Did your friend use the "safely remove hardware" function when removing your card from her computer? That could corrupt your card if she didn't. Try this...take your card to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture kiosk. They can usually read everything on a card. There, you can print the pics or even make a cd of them. Afterwards, format your card in your camera.

Fuji FinePix vs. Vista. Worked a few weeks ago, not now

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

My card reader is erasing pictures before I can download them

Try go to device manager and delete the 9 in one card reader, then tell device manager to scan for new hardware, the 9 in 1 card reader should be re-detected, drivers should be re-installed and the reader assigned a new drive letter. Good luck!

Problem with new memory card

Hi,

I read an article about the same problem.....
Ill tell you the information about it.....

There are few situations when you find that your memory card is not functioning as expected and instead of data, you are getting few error messages:

· “CARD ERROR”
· “ Memory Card Error”
· “Card Not Initialized”
· “Read Error”

Display of either error message forces the user to think of solution as the affected memory card may be the house of the relevant digital data including photos, videos and audios.

Most of such error messages are curable through formatting the card.
As you said you have tried this already but no success......

So your card is suffering from the problem that the card is corrupt harshly.

This is the worst defect in the memory cards......So better get it changed..

The memory card corruption reveals that the data will remain inaccessible as formatting has failed to cure the issue. So the best deal would be to have photo recovery software. Photo recovery is also required in case of formatting success.
Picture recovery is quite practical through photo recovery software which benefits the users through their scanning ability and power to address each specific case of photo loss.........

Hope my info helps you.........
Thanx
