Question about HP Photosmart M425 Digital Camera

4 Answers

Lens Error I made a mistake and droped my camara but it was working. Now all of a sudden my camara says there is a lens error, the screen changes multiple clors and then the camara shuts off. Today I tried to see if I can take pictures and it just kept beeping without any readings. It then cut off. I really like this camara my mother bought it for me and I would like to know how can I fix it. Is it possible to fix it on my own?

I have the M425 model also, I have not dropped it, the lens will not open, I beleive hp has a defective product and they do not want to recall this item, start writing hp on this problem and consomers agency. What a piece of junk, well at least I got about 2 dozen photos and a docking station I cant use.

dropped the camera, batteries fell out, when i put them back in, and turned the camera on, the screen stays blue ansd says lens error:M425-12 (7f80) at the top. the lens was out when i dropped it, and hasnt retracted back in. i dont want to buy a new one as i dont want to learn how to use another, is there anyway i can fix it myself? or take it somewhere, roughly how much would it cost me please? thanx

I just turned the camera on and it said Lens Error:12. How can this be fixed? It stays on for about 10 seconds and then this comes up. What to do?

I had the exact same problem. I was ready to take the advice below of saving for new camera, but I thought "what the heck can it hurt if I keep turning it off and on to see if it will open." Guess what, on about the 10th attempt, the lens finally opened and the camera now works.
I have no idea what was done from a technical aspect, but before you throw it out, it's worth a try!

There is nothing to fix. Something is broken thats for sure, but nothing I would imagine a repairer could do. So own up and save up for a new camera

Lens error . dropped camara and lens opened and now, when i turn on the camara, lens is open and screen says lens error

does it not extend or retract properly? Try to unstick the lens by gently pushing it in or pulling it out a little bit. IF that fails, the gears are too misaligned to repair it without opening it.

If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that replace them such as camera lens repairs.

If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

I dropped my camara and now it says lens error, restart camara

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Camara not focusing/ zoom not working

Its an error code and shows problem of Lens mechanism.
Lens focus / zoom motor is stuck that's why camera gives out of focus image.
You need to replace Lens Assembly and it would cost you more then camera worth.

System Error

I had the same problem. It was because the lens had just begun to retract and then jammed. I tried pushing back it in to no avail. I was considering it was time for a new camara anyway. Hoping to get a little more life out of it, with nothing to lose I was about to take it apart to see if I could clean out any obstruction as other posts had reccommended. Before I did that, I let my Mr. Goodwrench cousin take a look at it. Instead of trying to force the lens back in, he pulled it out. Apparently the slight play in the lens allowed him to do so and whatever was jamming the lens from retracting must have fallen out. Suddenly, the lens retracted and the camara is working fine. So before you throw the camara away or take it apart, try pulling out on the lens housing. You may also have to move it slightly back and forth while pulling out to get whatever is jamming the lens to move out and away releasing the lens to retract again.
