My 2000 Toyota Corolla headlights will not turn on during the night, and stay on during the day

When I turn my 2000 Toyota Corolla on, the headlight turn on without my cutting them on. When I flip the headlight switch on the headlights turn off. Also they stay on during the day and off at night. I changed the headlight switch and the headlights themselves and it's still doing the same problem. How do I fix it?

Did u ever figure it out ? Mine are doing same thing only work during the day and shut off when I turn lights on and don't work at night. I've changed all fuses and relays, still doing the same thing. I'm hoping it's not wiring issue

SOURCE: Need to change headlight on 1998 Toyota Corolla

Unless you have really small hands, you are going to have to unbolt the battewry bracket, and move the battery backwards as far as possible. Then you will be able to see the connection where the bulb socket mounts behind the headlamp. There are 2 different styles of bulbs that you may find...
If you see a large rubber ring, remove it, and undo the silver clip to extract the bulb.
If the wiring/socket goes directly into the back of the headlamp, simply twist the socket 1/4 turn, and pull it out.

SOURCE: Corolla 99 headlights

The car is equipped with Daytime running lights so it will always be on...to turn it off you must go in the hood and on the right side next to the engine air filter and fuse box, there is two smaller fuze boxes and the first one going from down to up direction labels DRL left and DRL right which are two fuses 10A or so take them off and they will not come on!

SOURCE: Headlights turn on by themselves when vehicle is parked.

Do you have auto lights when it gets dark out? When they come on is it in a parking garage or home garage where its dark If so chances are your switch/relay unit is bad. (or do they come on in daylight too)?

My 2000 Toyota Corolla's low beam headlights turn on during the day and off during the night. I have changed some of the fuses in the fuse box. I'm not sure what to try next.

assuming the 2000 is same as 2001-2002, the headlight system runs upon firing engine and they stay on... doesn't make sense , if headlights work during day light and don't during night time, check your light switch , move it around , wiggle etc.. if no diff. , check head light sensor and did you know there are like 3 or 4 diff. fuse box's , there is one in the dash!!!, driver side i believce , good luck

I have a 2007 Corolla LE. With my DRL, front lights are working but the rear ones just turned off. I checked all four bulbs, they are working fine when brakes are applied during the day and night when...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) feature only activates the front low beam headlights. The rear parking light are not turned on by the DRL, they only come on in dark conditions or by selecting the light manually.

Daytime Running lights run the battery dead

The Toyota Service Bulletin is 059633, dated March 13, 2003. My 2003 Corolla has the same problem. When the lights were on this morning after a very cold night, I jiggled the headlamp switch and sure enough, the headlights turned on and off. I found that the lights can be kept off if the switch is pushed forward and left in the "high beam" position when the car is off and the weather is expected to be cold. This is easier than pulling the fuse every time, until the switch can be replaced. It worked for me. Hope this helps.

Headlights go off when dark

I had the same problem with my 1998 Toyota Corolla. The sensors worked fine during the day, but all of a sudden they were out when it was dark outside. In addition my headlights would not come on when I tried turned them on manually. Of course this was a major problem. So I took my car to the dealership and they told me that the car needed new electrical wiring. They could not tell me how much it would be. Of course I don't trust a dealership to give me a good price, so I took it to Firestone. Not all mechanics are certified for Toyota, which was the case for the mechanic at Firestone. However, he was able to give me a temporary fix. He disabled the sensors all together so I could turn on the headlights manually. I hope this helps.

Insterment panel light out.

When you say you replace the fuse 3 times, is because the fuse have blown? If so, there is a short in the system and will need expert help to trace the short.
Does the day time running light stay on during day light hours and does the lights comes on without activating the headlight switch during night hours when the park brake is released?
If so, this of course is normal condition. If not then the day time running light circuit needs diagnosing along with the body module circuit. Headlight switch will also need to be tested.
