Somehow my IBM thinkpad G40 has locked up. It goes to a balck screen with a lock symbol and wants a password. I tried to reset everything like IBM said to do but it still does it. I pulled everything out of it and plugged it in. Got some beeps and then unplugged it put everything back in it and it still does the same thing. cant get into BIOS or nothing. NO CD booting. No anything. According to the IBM website the lock emblem i see is a "power up" lock. I was able finally to get into a "Broadcom Network boot manager" but tht is it so far. Any ideas on how i can get into the BIOS to clear the non-existent password it wants or at least get a CD to boot?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Oops, straight from the manual for your laptop...
Problem: I forgot my password.
Solution: If you forgot your power-on password, you must take your computer to an IBM reseller or marketing representative to have the password canceled. If you forgot your hard disk password, IBM will not reset your password or recover data from the hard disk. You must take your computer to an IBM reseller or an IBM marketing representative to have the hard disk drive
replaced. Proof of purchase is required, and a fee will be charged for parts and service. If you forgot your supervisor password, IBM will not reset your password. Sorry to see that... Good luck.
Click start run type cmd press Enter
black screen should open DOS mode
this will vary depending on your operating system
type in net user username
For eg. If you want to change administrator password , type net user Administrator
it will prompt you to enter the new password
enter the new password and the password is changed
hope this helps
