I have the samething going on here plus the zapping, this tv is garbage! about the green tint, I unplug the cord from the t.v for about 20 mins, then plug it back in, half the time it will restore normal color.the zapping and loud noise that comes from the tv, well if you let the tv warm up, about 10-15 mins it will go away. I now have no sound from my tv, I think the zapping blow out my tv speakers.lmao. this is the reason I will buy an extended warrenty.

Panasonic TC-P42U1 plasma. Lost it's vivid colors basic color is black and white and green and blue if tint color tone etc. Is turned up. However a blue ray video plays with full color. Could it be a lose...

I have an old Toshiba TV and was going to replace it with a new plasma because it has suddenly (the week of July 19, 2010) lost color. It has only green and blue tint. Changing the "tint" on the menu didn't help. The color comes and goes relative to nothing that I can measure, such as how long it is turned on, etc. Reading other complaints from owners of Plasmas, I am thinking it is cable related. I have Charter Cable. Playing a DVD, I have to readjust the tint back to normal. Hope this info gives clues.

Screen has green tint, it is an LCD 42 inch

First of all, that is not an LCD tv. It is DLP, which is a common mistake because the picture is very similar. DLP tv's use a high-power lamp that reflects light off of thousands of tiny mirrors into a spinning color wheel which gives the reflections color. Each little mirror is one pixel, which can be any color depending on the hole that it goes through on the color wheel. The color wheel may be spinning slower than normal, which could make all of the light go through the green filter on the color wheel, and give your screen a green tint. Have a trusted mechanic take your tv apart and dust the inside. If that doesn't fix it, you may need a new color wheel or bearings for it (that help it spin). You should not pay more than $200 for a bearing replacement on this tv.

Thanks for asking.

Video is taking on a red tint which is getting worse over time

check the cable connections. look at different inputs. VGA and Component cables have the colors split, so if it's turning red, green, or blue; it's likely a cable or connector.

I can't seem to correct a tint problem. The tv turns on and the tint doesn't change. A friend says it could be a vidoe card?

Go to menue on controller, then Picture, then adjust Color and Tint to you taste. The color ajusts Blue and Green move left more blue move the slider right more green. The Tint controlls red. More red move right less left. Also chech Color temp setting.

Picture settings

Colorimetre HCFR software
AVC HD 709 calibration disk
Spyder2 colorimeter (I know most prefer the Eye-One meters, but the Spyder2 was available from my job at no cost)

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White (HDMI): On (not sure if this matters)

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.
