Question about Hitachi 51F500 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Convergence. I hope you can help me. The screen on my hitachi 51F500 is distorted and blurry, esp in the left hand corner. Any written words will appear as rad, blue and green, just not on top of one another. I went to manual convergence and the grid is also distorted in the left hand corner. It looks similiar to a sinusudial waveform. The majic focus function stopes during the green alignment and displays a number 5. From the research I have done tonight it appears that I need new convergence IC's. If you could confirm that I need the IC's I would gladly purchase them thru your shop. I haven't taken the back off the set yet - I am hoping it is obvious where the IC's need to go - any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Tom M.

Possible covergence ic are faulty and that your sensor is either sensing it or is at fault also, can the pattern be corrected with adjustment,if not your amps are the fault.

Left side of sreen is blurry/halo effect. Right side is normal. Magic focus stops when it gets to green and flashes green number 5 on bottom left of screen. (Hitachi 2003 51" projection HDTV)

SET uses two of the STK-392-150 convergence chips for this, both need to be replaced and set adjusted.

Parts cost on EBAY will be under 25 dollars. I can help if you are do it yourself person. A shop will get 250-300 for this but you can do it for much less.

Can I assist you?

Wavy colored line at upper right corner of set seems like something is pushing from top left and distorting picture from that direction.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

My Hitachi TV Model #51F500 is showing shadows and double lettering (in other words a terrible picture). Please help.

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Hitachi 51f500(flicker+warp)

Most likely bad convergence IC's! Location numbers should be IK04 and IK05. Generic numbers STK392-110.

Hitachi 51F500 (Two separate problems?)

My guess is that the sound you heard was that of some High Voltage discharges that could have fed back and damaged some semiconductors including the microprocessor itself. Since it could be a very expensive repair, I would be very tempted to look around for a new HDTV by JVC or Toshiba. Hitachi has slipped a notch or two in recent years according to my experience.
