LG Dehumidifier control panel doesn't work

There are 5 basic, but solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2..

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

sciocci, the fan doesn't operate all the time. It operates when the dehumidifier is collecting humidity/water from the air or when it is operating in continual mode (draining water into a floor drain). So I'm not sure what you discovered is really a problem at this point. Particularly, since you the "dehumidifier is not collecting any water". Which to me, indicates that it was running, but without success.

With that in mind, I suggest you start with troubleshooting the basics after you put the panel back on the unit.

There are many reasons why a dehumidifier willnot work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrongwith their dehumidifier

So far, you've completed all the right tings, that I would have suggested. Now, take a look at the humidity setting on the dehumidifier. If it's set high (above 65%) there's not much chance that the unit will collect any humidity. It simply is just maintaining what it's set on. Lowering the setting to 35% will have a much better affect in removing the humidity/moisture.

There is an in home test you can do, to make sure the unit is working properly. Place the dehumidifier in the center of a bathroom and turn the shower ON hot enough to generate steam. Turn the humidifier ON and Set the level at 35%. Do Not turn the bathroom's exhaust fan ON or leave a window open in the bathroom. As you exit the bathroom, close the door and wait 15 to 20 minutes before returning. After entering the bathroom, turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run for 5 more minutes. Then check the bucket for signs of water. If you find any, the unit is working as it should. Also. the dehumidifier, when in operation should have a minimum of 2 feet of clear air space around it. The fans on many units run almost constantly, to recirculate the air and if any increase in humidity is sensed, the compressor will turn ON. This is particularly true, if you operate it in continuous mode, rather than a timed mode. Also, be sure that all exterior doors and windows are closed when the unit is in operation.

If after doing the in home test, the bucket did not show any signs of water, either the humidity sensor has failed and needs to be replaced or the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant. If you don't feel comfortable trying to repair the unit yourself, the following is a link that will help you locate an authorized LG Repair Center in your area.

Find out what the cost to repair the unit will be, before committing to it. As your model has been discontinued and it may be less expensive to but a new unit. Hope this helped you. Please let me know.

You may have the humidity setting to high. Try lowering it to 45%. Or if yours doesn't have an LED Screen, set it for minimum. Also, check and clean the air intake filter, if you haven't already. Keep in mind, most dehumidifiers have a fan that may seem to run constantly, but the compressor doesn't turn ON. The fan is circulating air, in a effort to detect humidity levels that are higher than what you have the humidity removal set on.

The following statement is a parameter for all dehumidifiers and some of the control issues may vary, but the theory is the same.

Most dehumidifiers have a "Frost Guard" mounted on the condensor coil. If frost accumulates on the condensor coil the frost guard turns the compressor off until the frost melts, then comes back on again. For the dehumidifier to work properly, the surrounding (ambient), temperature must be higher than 65 degress. This temperature allows the moisture in the air to condense on the coils and drip into the reservoir without freezing up on the condensor coil. Also, if the humidity is too low, (below 45%), the same condition will occur. So it will help to keep the parameters in mind when you have this issue.
