Sony Mavica CD400 orange vertical line appears.

In lesser digital camera chips, this is typically "vertical smear". It is especially apparent if there is a much brighter light source in the image. I.E., a street lamp on a dark street. I have used an early version of the Mavica and experienced this type of situation with that camera, so am assuming that this is typical throughout the Mavica model line. The work-sround is be particular about the lighting situations you shoot with the camera.

LCD Display is black when the camera is on.

Only folks...I just opened the back of the CCD by removing 5 small screws. I popped the cover, carefully. The reason I am doing this is becuase my LCd screen was not working, yet the camera still funcitioned as if the LCD was. Guess what, the flat cable that controls the LCd had come loose from use and time from under the clamp. Simple fix. Plugged the flat cable back in, and wala, back in action. This may solve some problems with the display being black. Check the connections under the cover. easy to remove. Silverwolf

Black LCD screen on camera

Hi! Just had the same problem (black display) on a Pentax Optio 330GS(?). I moved my hand in front of it and took pictures of things but nothing happened. Then my girlfriend tried to point it to a lamp, and all-of-a-sudden it kinda woke up from a screensaver or something. So weird, but it worked. Perhaps it needs enough light in order to start using the display and lens. I couldn't take any pictures when the LCD was black. So, try pointing it towards a strong light source before you break your camera.
