Laptop wont charge. light does not come on

Hi Elizabeth,
If you have replaced the battery with a brand new one then it sounds like your charger maybe faulty.
I'm not sure what model Sony laptop you have but to check if the charger is working, plug it in and look for a charge light either on the front lip of the laptop or somewhere around the power button.
The charge light will only illuminate when the charger is plugged in and powered at the wall.

Check charger and make sure the light on it is lit. If it is not check all your plug in connections and see if it lights. If it lights and does not charge your laptop then check the connection there. If that is good then take it to best buy and have them check it there for free. If it is bad they will gladly sell you the correct charger for your computer.

If your battery will not charge, you need to run a test on some components on the laptop. The battery, the charger and the laptop itself. Once you detect the faulty conponent then you replace it with a new one.

To test the battery:
1.Power off the laptop,
2.Take out the battery,
3.Insert it in another laptop,
4.Check of it will charge,

If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the problem is not from the battery, but if it does not hold a charge, then it means the battery is defective and need to be replaced with a new one.

To test the charger:
1.Unplug the charger from the present laptop,
2.Connect it to another laptop to see if it will charge.

If it charges the laptop, then it means the charger is alright, and if it does not charge the laptop, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.

To test the laptop:
1.Turn off the laptop,
2.Disconnect your present charger,
3.Remove your present battery pack,
4.Insert a well tested battery into the laptop,
5.Connect a well tested charger to the laptop.

If it powers on, then it and charges, then it means the laptop is working fine, but if it does not charge, then it means the connection port of the laptop is bad.Hope this information was helpful.

The DC plug in the laptop is worn/charger plug, or the DC jack in the laptop is breaking away from the motherboard.

try diconnecting the charger and holding down the power up button for longer, then try plugging in charger- turn on charger at wall then hold down power on button till power button on key lights up, i hope this helps you out ;)

Try another charger. If it turns on and chargers the unit you are currently using needs to be replaced. Do not leave your charger plugged in after charging your battery as this will shorten its life.

The brand new battery needs to be charged completely at the very first time you start to use it.

Just because the light comes on does not mean the charger is charging. You will have to use a meter and check the actual output of the charger. The problem could be the charger , charger plug, cables or battery. Start the checks with the plugs and cables and go from there. The light can come on but no power going out to the battery.

It could be the battery needs replacing ... it shows that the battery is charging but it doesn't keep the charge .....
