Have had my plasma for almost 5 years, never a problem. Now upper power light is flashing red and I get no picture. I have powered on and off and no improvement. Is there any other solution?

Two problems: first, tv turns off for about 10 seconds after being on awhile, then turns back on. 2nd, picture will sometimes go black horizontally displaying only half of the upper screen. This will go on for about an hour off and on.
If you have the flashing red light of death you can use the chart below to see what the blinks indicate and call Panasonic and have the part replaced, at the bottom of this page is the meaning of terms.

I have had this problem in some models of plasma sets before. In most cases the power supply and main drive boards had to be replaced. In a small number of cases the failure was the screen itself.
In all cases, the cost of the repair was expensive. For the screen failure, the set was scrapped.
