Re: Not heating food
While it's possible it could be a door switch or mount, it's most likely a bad magnetron or a bad connection at the magnetron or on the control board.
If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
You can order parts for Samsung models here: http://www.samsungparts.com/search/search.asp

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00
Magnatron is suspect. Need to put a voltmeter and see if the input
(primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in
there) is getting 120Vac. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of
this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing
the magnatron. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on
EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
It has a bad magnetron. This is the tube that provides the microwaves to heat the food. Not too easy to replace yourself but it can be done. Cost of magnetron is probably less than $50 or $60.
have a GE xl1800 microwave that is not heating the food. The lights work, turntable turns etc. all but no heat. Help this microwave is only 1 years old.
The most likely causes are defective a door switch (or switch mount), a bad connection in the high voltage section, or on the controller.
I would direct you to my safety text file and door switch text file for critical safety info anf info on testing & replacing door switches.
You can find it via searching on Yahoo.com (not Google) for:
microwave safety.txt
After you check that out, please repost so we can hel you further.
