My freezer just recently stopped keeping things frozen. Even though it is on the coldest setting, things are thawing. It just happened out of the blue. The Fridge part is still working great. This was purchased used from an appliance shop that fixes appliances and resells. this was the problem when I purchased it from them but they said it was fixed and it was for about 4-5 months. Now it quit again. They only offered a 30 day warranty. What could be causing my freezer side to not freeze all of a sudden. I already had a problem with my ice maker not making ice properly and overfilling the tray and then spilling water into the bottom of the freezer and freezing. (at least it would freeze then). I was advised by an expert on this site what that problem most likely was and that it was not serviceable. I have learned to just deal with that problem but I really need to have my freezer. I would appreciate any help and advice on this situation. Thanks!!

Re: My freezer is not keeping food frozen
Defrost system is malfunctioning causing build up of ice. remove back panel of freezer, check for ice build up. if so, defrost carefulle with a hairdryer. also check drain is not blocked by ice. if it is, use hot water to get rid of it. (takes time)

check the vent that lets air from the freezer goes to the refrigerator. A control knob operates the amount of opening through the vent with a flap. makes the flap is not stuck, and responds to the knob, this is all mechanically link.
I've made a mistake before with thinking that I was setting the adjustment correctly on a refrigerator before, sometimes those dials are hard to read if there is a graphic scale, or symbols etc. Instead of numbers with the highest number being the coldest setting. Anyway make sure the temp setting is set correctly, these are found in the refrigerator side.(yes even for the freezer, so it does'nt freeze up) I adjust mine all of the time, things only need to be so cold right.(helps my elect bill) Make sure those special compartments have clear air passages to them. best regards.
