SOURCE: Dell inspiron 1150 laptop black screen

Can you hear the Windows startup noises but can't hear it?

Does it work plugged into an external monitor? (Any good CRT or flat screen should work.

Be sure to plug in the screen before you turn it on.
If it doesnt output to the LCD automatically you may have to hit FN-F8 to switch to external.

If it works on external monitor you are just dealing with a screen problem of some sort - either a bad inverter or backlight in the LCD most commonly...

1. Do you see the BIOS (POST) screen after power is ON ?

2. If not, the problem is with BIOS.

3. Try to reseat the BIOS chip if possible!

4. Otherwise contact the authorised service center to diagnose!

SOURCE: My Dell Inspiron Mini won't power up. When I

Hi,

Im very sorry to hear that, please follow these simple steps for you to be able to isolate the exact problem.

1. Removed the battery.
2. Connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime.
3. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop is able to power on, that means that the AC adapter is working fine as well as the DC port. If the laptop is not able to turn on, it maybe the AC adapter itself or the DC port.
4. Try to use another AC adapter if possible, make sure that that AC adapter is working fine. If the laptop is still not turning on, the problem is with the DC port itself. In that case, you will need to replaced the Motherboard itself.

Hope this will help...Thank you for using Fixya...

Dell inspiron 1520 won't turn on.

Remove the battery from its compartment on the side of your Dell Inspiron laptop computer.

Remove the power adapter from its plug on the side of the Dell Inspiron (if your laptop is currently plugged into a wall outlet).

Press down and hold the "Power" button on the laptop for one to two minutes. This will dispel the excess electrical current that is built up inside the laptop.

Put the battery back inside the compartment of your Dell Inspiron.

Plug your power adapter back into the side of the Dell Inspiron. Press "Power." Your laptop computer will now turn on.

hope this helps

We have a disk stuch in a dell inspiron 1318, there is no OS on it right now. how can we get disk out? there is no place to stick the paper clip

Remove the optical drive, and then open the drive. Remove the disk.

With most laptops this is a simple job.
Turn the laptop over on it's top, remove one Philips head screw, pull the optical drive out.
Remove 2 to 4 screws from a cover on the optical drive, and ease the tray open.

With the Inspiron 1318 Notebook PC it is more difficult.

A) Remove the Display Assembly.
(Removal covers removing the Display Assembly as a whole unit, off of the laptop)

B) Remove the Keyboard.

C) Remove the Palm Rest. (Top cover under the Keyboard. Your palms rest on it when you use the touchpad)

D) Remove the Optical Drive

Dell Support > Dell Inspiron 1318 Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1318/en/sm/index.htm

In the list click on Optical Drive.

It turns on for a few seconds then shuts off

Hi,
Since you have already replaced the ac adapter. The problem is still there. the most likely cause of the failure is bad motherboard. Remove the battery from the laptop and disconnect the ac adapter . Press the power button for 10 seconds. Reconnect the ac adapter and try powering on the system. If the same doesnot work

Try the steps in the link

Inspiron 1318 will not start. initially the power supply would not charge the battery. bought a new power cable. now the machine won't even turn on.

You need to take out the battery and try to power on the laptop with out it in..If it works then the battery is poched. Maybe the power supply you bought is wrong one? Did you buy it from dell?
