Drive does not read burned DVDs. It reads game install disks and burned CDs, though. Already tried unplugging it and re-installing the drivers. There was no changes to the computer - hardware or software.

SOURCE: dvd drive unable to read empire total war disc

I have the same problem. Some DVD drives seem to have a problem with the protection on the Empire disc (and other games). Might have to do with this Securom/Windows thing.

But here is my solution
1. Install Steam
2. Make Steam install the game from the disc, using its local EXE.
i.e. run:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Starting Steam.exe from your HDD rather than the setup.exe from the DVD bypasses this disc protection issue.

Alternatively, you can enter the CD-KEY in Steam and download the game from the Net.

Either way, Steam saved the day although everyone was complaining about using it for Empire

SOURCE: asus 2014s1 writes a dvd disc that it does not

I recently experienced the same problem. The cause is the drive itself is starting to fail. It will continue to degrade until it stops functioning completely.
The only thing you can do is replace it.

SOURCE: The drive plays DVDs and can read doc files, but

This problem is normal and exists with many CD/DVD drives.
On some of the drives, if you put in blank discs and try to open the disc in My Computer or Windows Explorer, Windows displays no contents or a blank disc. Whereas on other drives, you get the error message that you mentioned about incorrect function.

What software are you using to burn CDs or DVDs? Are you able to burn CDs but not DVDs or you can't burn both the discs? Did you try a CDs with a different make/manufacturer? Some drives refuse on some disc makes. Try another disc and another writing speed, or try the lowest writing speed available with your software.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

The drive wont read any burnt dvds, and ones that have stuff on it show up as blank cds. itll read actual dvd games though just fine.

The actual dvd were also burned somewhere, did you burn your stuff correctly, try playing those cd on another computer.
CLEAN, WASH YOUR DVDs CAREFULLY DON'T DESTROY THEM.
It doesn't look like your dvd drive is faulty.
Please feel free to ask me for further information.

Does the toshiba sd 2502 , can it burn cds

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

I can burn cd's but not dvd's

Hello Rfd832,
What I see from the description is that the drive is a combo drive. Combo drives are CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives means
CD-RW = Compact Disk-Read Write
DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory
so these drives can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs (Cannot write or burn DVDs)
If you want to be able to burn DVDs then you need to have DVD RW drive (either DVD+RW or DVD-RW)

You said that you are able to burn DVDs on other computer so please check the label on the DVD drive.. it should be DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive

Hope that helps.. :)

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

My dvdrom drive wont let me access the drive

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.

Problem with disc drive

You didn?t mention the type of disk (something you burned or bought) or the physical condition of the disks (brand new, some scratches or lots) but if they?re commercial CDs or DVDs and you can play them in another laptop or player you should be able to play them in your laptop consistently. About the only thing I would recommend doing to a new laptop drive still in warranty would be to clean the drive using a commercial CD cleaning disk. If you still have trouble reading commercial CDs that play in other devices I would contact the manufacturer?s technical support for repair.
