Canon PIXMA MP170 - paper jammed

I have read over this sites threads and notice i was not the only one with this paper jam problem, now i have read that people turned the printer off and turned it back on with paper in the hopper but the error still occurred. i am still not sure what to do, within a month or two of buying this it worked fine and then it broke. i have not been able to use it for months now and i just decided to look for tips to fix it. can someone else give me some help with this problem

This worked for me, I hope it works for you 1. start up the printer 2. fire up your computer 3. (assuming you are using windows vista) type in printers on the start bar and click on printers. 4. double click on your printer 5. cancel all print jobs 6. on the printer keep pressing OK until it goes away

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Cartridge jammed

Hi there,
Error : Cartridge Jammed
Cause : The print head holder cannot move. This is normally due to a paper jam.
Action : Clear the paper jam or whatever is obstructing the print head holder. Reload the paper in the machine correctly and press [OK].

Printer keeps saying paper jam..there is no paper jam

You can also try using a rubber eraser as the rollers are going. Just take a pencil and lightly rub along the length of the rollers as they are feeding. This should remove the film that clogs the rollers surface.

Wont print

Chances are there is a piece of paper that has ripped after a jam. Carefulle check the entire paper path for even the smallest piece of paper. This can cause the problem you explained.
