Question about Sylvania DVR90VE DVD Recorder/VCR
I have my recorder set, time and channel, but it does not start recording when it is time.i dont have a mannual. am i suppose to turn thr vcr off or let it on. i yried it both ways and nothing happens,it will record if i press the red button. any suggestions
Be sure you have first set the clock correctly. After setting timer recorder time, channel, speed etc. hit enter to highlight the setting to be sure you have it. Press setup to put you back to tv screen. Then press t-Set button on remote. Unit will automatically shut off and there will be an amber symbol on the unit lcd along with the time. This indicated the unit is in the timer mode. It will automatically turn on and record the program at the set time.

i have uploaded the user manual for this model, it should be visible within the next 24 hours. the quick version is this:
if you haven't done so yet, set the clock
menu/ use up/down arrows to select "clock set", press right arrow to select, set day, year, etc using up and down arrows, when each is set, the right arrow moves you to the next bit
once clock is set
use up and down arrows to scroll to timer recording, and press the right arrow to select
set the program number (1-8)
set frequency (once, daily, weekly)
set the date to record
set start time (i usually go 5 mins prior)
set end time (i usually go 5 mins after)
set channel number
set tape speed
exit by pressing clear/c reset
press t-set to activate the timer
the timer rec light should come on, the timer recording will not be active unless you press the t-set button
hope this helps

From comments posted on the Internet by other Sylvania users with a similar problem, I learned that I had to use a 4X DVD-R (the ones I had been trying to record on were 16X). And I found that Office Depot sells the sometimes hard-to-find 4X format, so that's where I'm headed right after lunch. Thanks.

You can't use 16x or anything that says 1x-16x or 1x-4x.
The 4X speed DVD-R are difficult to find. (Tried Office Depot,OfficeMax, Staples, Microcenter,Best Buy and Walgreens!) Finally found Princo brand at checkoutstore.com
They worked great!
