Non-functioning horn on lionel 621 switcher

The engine is mint in box but has been in the attic for 46 years.
This is the first time I ever removed the cover since 1956 when I bought it. I just lubricated it and it runs great but the horn only hums/buzzes when when I hit the button on the transformer. I am running it on fast track. I don't know if that makes a difference in horn performance.
I would appreciate any in you have to solve this issue.
Thanks,
John

    Dear Fix ya,

Yes, the issue still exists but I'm not interested in any plan to fix it because I will figure it out. It's just a matter of time and finding the wiring and parts service manual. I was just interested in finding out if someone else could share a similar issue and resolution with me without making a buck.

    Thank you.

The horn has a screw in it to adjust the pitch. Try adjusting it to see if you get sound.

you may have to use a Lionel transformer for this because some older trains worked on AC current not the DC current that this train uses

SOURCE: I have a Lionel ZW transformer older version

Just wanted to add a note to this problem you are having....Question is this...How big is the train layout and how many power clips do you have on the track??
Reason is being if you only have one power clip for the whole track, you will notice a decrease (slowdown) of the train in certain area(s) so i would recommend adding another power clip or two to your layout, also If you are using old regular O track, make sure you have the metal pins in all 3 railsHope this helps

I am looking for a umbrella cap to cover my 15 inch attic exhaust fan

Many people just use large black trash bags secured with duct tape or bungi cords. Black bags won't deteriorate as fast as the white ones with the UV rays of the sun and should last one full winter.

If you're concerned about the neighbors complaining about the lack of asthetics....I can't help you.

I never cover attic vents nor recommend them to be covered, because a properly vented attic all year long ensures moisture removal from the attic area and from the insulation. Also if you have shingled roofing, each nail point extending through the sheeting will condense moisture and drip into the insulation in a non vented attic space. This happens many times each winter when the air temp and the moisture content collide on the dew point scale. It does NOT happen daily.

The nails conduct the warmth to the outside, cool down and attract the moisture from the non vented air on their exposed length and slide down to the tip dripping into the insulation. Moisture detracts from the insulations ability to do its job, and that's to insulate the living space from abnormally cold or hot temperatures.

My c200 year 2000 got problem with horn, i just went to service my car after that i switch on my car the horn swtich on automatically and non stop ,after awhile, my mechanic fix again and now no more

Often we find that the horn pad becomes loose and requires adjustment, you need to take it to a mechanic to be adjusted, they need to remove the air bag and adjust the spring loaded screws, that should fix your horn, I doubt it has anything to do with your air conditioning repair

I am using a standard 80 watt transformer (not command control), but the rail sounds do not work on this unit at all. I have checked the on/off switch and played with the volume, but still no sounds. At...

Many of the MTH Protosounds 1 and 2 and Trainmaster will not work with the Lionel CW-80 electronic power source. The output waveform is so non-like sinusoidal. The electronic sound systems will not usually respond to this waveform and when they do, the sound will be garbled. Use another power source.

My cw-80 Lionel transformer has button issues when operating both traditional and tmcc loco. the horn and bell sounds are goofy. and on some of my traditionaltenders the sounds are still on when the...

The CW-80 is not suited for electronic sound systems. The output is non-sinusoidal. When electronic sounds are generated for some locos, the sound will be garbled. Use another power source. The Z1000 MTH power source or similar is recommended as are many other older Lionel standard power xfmrs. For the sound stay on problem with switch off, try putting a fixed load on the tracks ie: An accessory of some kind (lights etc). Usually a fixed electrical load will fix this problem. Overall, I would recommend changing out the power source and save yourself a lot of headache..

Why is a ''D'' battery needed for my Lionel Diesel engine?

This is just a guess but it may have powered headlights or other lights on the train at one time, some of then even had a smoke producing device on them.

The fuse box is located under the engine hood on the left side, near the upper strut housing or near the battery. it should say which one controls the horn either in the back of the owners manual or under the fuse box lid. if not the fuse than the horn itself might be bad. hope this helps
