I own this scanner and after a recent crash it won't save scans to disk. It seems to save the first scan (and name it incorrectly) and then wont save any others. All drivers are up to date & I am running Windows XP Media Center.
I have already tried reinstalling both the software & the drivers but still have this problem. ThanksI have already tried reinstalling both the software & the drivers but still have this problem. Thanks

Try re-installing the drivers , your crash could of corrupted the installed drivers causing your issues. I have installed Media Center on my Father in Law's cpu and found that it is very unstable at times and also many of his installed programs that worked fine under Win XP SP2 either crash frequently or wont work at all. Driver support is an issue for Media Center IMO. I would recommend if you cannot get the scanner to work after you re-install them , think about changing your OS. Good Luck.

I have many years repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.
First I would google Canon CanoScan N650U drivers, it should pull up Canons website and take you directly to the newest drivers avalible they are free. Then I would disconnect your scanner from your computer and install the latest drivers. Also while your on Canon's website download capture perfect its free and it works with your scanner for scanning purposes. I would then install the drivers and then hook up the cable to your computer. At that point you should get a pop up saying new drivers are being installed. Once there installed reboot your computer and you should be ready to start scanning.
What scanning software are you using? Once you initiate scan command, the software will ask for location (and format) where you want to save the files. After scanning, try & use 'Save as' command, by default it will go to where it is already saved. Alternatively, search for the file name under Windows.

Download the XP driver for the Canoscan N650U scanner and save it on your desktop. Once the download is finished go to your desktop and unzip or unrar it and then plug in your scanner and try installing it - let it fail. Then, go into your control panel, device manager, find your scanner - right click "update driver software" go in and tell it where to look - here is where it tells you the driver isn't encoded properly but it gives you the option to install it anyway and it works just great - it'll re-organize in your device manager under imaging devices when done. -kudos goes to "expertz" from techarena
I had the same problem and it was making me crazy. I finally realized, that you have to open MP Navigator, go to scan, go to preferences, and there under the general tab at the top where it says select printer, you have to select the networked name of your printer/scanner and not the default name, which is the same at the beginning so easy to overlook. (of course you have to have set up the network first)
there is no driver yet for windows 7.but download scan gear and scan gear toolbox from here:http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000473.asp open properties, compatibility and run it in compatibility mode for xp sp2
Canon only has this scanner driver in OS9 and it will run in classic mode if you are using OSX. This $40 software will work with your scanner in OSX, but for $40 you can purchase an OSX native scanner too. http://www.hamrick.com/index.html
I had exactly as described on my new 4400f scanner. Have resolved by uninstalling the toolbox software (it was at 5.0.1.2), downloading toolbox s/w from canon site, file name is S6A04mux.exe - toolbox 5.0.1.1 Installed this and all works from the scanner front panel
This is a compatibility issue between the Copy function of Toolbox and the specific HP printer driver. The only work-around would be to scan your image and save it, then print it from another application. One other possibility would be to get Toolbox version 2.2.x from the N650U scanner download page. This version will be limited in functionality, but COPY button should function as expected.
I have already tried reinstalling both the software & the drivers but still have this problem. Thanks
