We're having the following issues with our RCA RTD300 home theater: - DVDs fail to load about 50% of the time. Cannot read error - DVDs take about 3 minutes to load when they do load - While playing DVDs, the playback stutters, freezes, and skips. Very rarely it fails and ejects the DVD. - Occasionally, changing the tray that the DVD is in seems to allow the DVD to load (there are 3 trays for the changer). However, the is no 1 tray that performs better than the others, and I am fairly certain there is only 1 reader. While the condition of the DVD surface used to seem to effect the performance, brand new DVDs are now showing the same symtoms. We have tried cleaning the lens, which seems to help for about an hour, then the behavior returns. Powering the unit off between DVD viewing attempts does not seem to affect the issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

SOURCE: Region free for RCA RTD160
Try to find out by looking at the menu of the dvd. play the DVD without a CD Rom in it then press stop and menu at the same time. It will let you select a region for it to play. But sometimes you can only do that with a different DVD players. so0me DVD players are only made to play on what you already have it on.

SOURCE: RCA RTD315 Theater System The DVD Player recently
My identical system has exactly the same problem as the one described by dipaola, above. When I insert a DVD, the DVD carriage pops back open after a few seconds. In fact, mine won't stay closed even without a DVD in it, as long as the system is set to play a DVD. I'd like an answer to the big Q - Is there anything I can do about this, or should I just find another DVD player to hook into the system?
