My pt-53tw53g was made in 04. It turns on and has sound but I have no picture. Just a black screen. Can see a line with some color coming down the middle if I look hard enough. Can you help me?

Yes, it has a bad capacitor on the D board and it will usually be easy to find as this will have a crack in it.

There is an easy and a hard way to approach this and I need to know which you want....

I have some distored blue color across the screen

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Just tonight we were watching TV and the screen got darker. Picture is still fine, just got darker, on some channels the top and bottom center bow in toward the center a little, easy fix or a lot of...

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

Fuzzy picture

never adjust the tubes themselves( No-NO) these are affixed to the chasis in one position and not to be moved. no adjustments should ever be attempted to anything directly attached to the tubes. this will throw off centering, soft-focus, & convergence alignments. it can be corrected but a huge burr on the bottom of the foot! what you have are faulty convergence ic's and maybe sme low-ohm resistors that are bad. repair in-home should not exceed 350.00. parts and labor. mch

3 green spots on the top center of my projection hd tv

I had a similar problem and brought it in to a technician for a quote of $860 to fix. The problem - speck of dust on the optics. If it weren't under warranty I would take it apart and blow off the dust myself.

Panasonic PT-53TW53G

Mikey,
There are any number of possible failures that can cause the symptoms you're describing. For example, C509 a .47uf/250v mylar cap has been known to fail in those units causing the wavy lines. On the other hand convergence amp failures can do the same thing. That unit uses two STK392-110 Sanyo amps at pos# Ic7001,Ic7002 Panasonic p/n# C5aa00000203 and more in that circuit needs to be tested and signal traced to isolate all of the problem if the amps are the culprit. In short, I don't think this is one you want to tackle with less than a 20 mhz scope and some serious background in electronics.

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
