I just plugged Logitech speakers into my desktop. Do I need to download software for them to work?

Old speakers were working.

I have a logitech messenger webcam 8.47 which used to work. I am running windows XP. I noticed that it stopped working this past week, thinking it wasn't plugged in properly, I unplugged it and replugged...

Visit the Logitech website and browse the photo gallery for your model and click on the photo to navigate to the support page.
Note - Older models on page 2 - look for the link at the bottom right of page 1 and click on it "Still can't find your product?"

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/405/&cl=us,en?prodcrid=405

In addition to the Logitech installer you will need to check the support software - Microsoft DirectX . This comes pre-loaded on most Windows computers but has to be updated - I am currently on version 11
To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click 'Start', click 'Run', type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK
Run through the tabs checking the 'notes' windows for information
The version will be shown on the 'Systems' tab

Procedure to re-install Logitech software
Close all programs while uninstalling - downloading and uploading software
Disconnect your webcam
Uninstall the current webcam software on your computer
Restart computer
Download the Installation package from Logitech
Run the installer and choose your options during the installation - You may not want Logitech Chat but the Desktop icon for the webcam toolbar is a must.
Connect your webcam when prompted.

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/
Not working ? - troubleshoot your drivers and software - get your cam working before moving on

Working OK ?

Set your webcam mic as default ( if it has a built in mic)

Plug in the webcam

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Right click on the volume graph and select 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

I have logitech x 230 speakers. When i use my old computer i just plug them in and they work. i installed an additional OS to my old computer; windows xp professional. The speakers were not even recog

You may need to install the audio drivers for those systems. If the sound is built onto the mainboard, you'll need the motherboard model number to help locate the drivers online. You can look for them yourself through a search engine, or if you'd like, get back to me with the model numbers of the motherboards, and I will locate your drivers. The model number of the motherboard should be printed directly on the motherboard itself.

How to program my new Keyboard cordless desktop S510

When I bought my s510 recently I couldn't use the function keys even with the software that came with the keyboard and mouse.

I had to actually download new logitech software for the s510 which allowed me to use the function/extra keys.

Navigate to:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard_mice_combos/devices/145&cl=US,EN

On the right hand side of the screen you will see 'Support Center' below it click 'Downloads,'
From there you can choose your OS w98 and language and download the software you need to get your keyboard working the way it should.

Logitech R-10 speakers

The R10 speakers are analog speaker drivers are not needed, you may need drivers for your sound card-- quick test plug a headset into the green port on the back of your computer. if there is sound coming thru then the sound card is fine and you need to make sure your connection are correct. if no sound, plug the headset into the front ports for headphones. if sound is coming thru there but not in back the sound card needs replacement the port is bad.
