Question about Toshiba 53H71 53 in. Rear Projection Television
I replaced the STK392-110's about 7 months ago and the TV picture looked beautiful. Yesterday I saw a wavy blink, and the blue horizontal waves started. Today the red and blue have started to fail. I had the ic's professionally soldered and the soldering quality looked outstanding. He used thermal compound quite liberally so I am not sure that's the problem. I think there are two possibilities if the STK's failed again: overheating or a bad quality part. Can you suggest a good part's site, and any other possibilities before I swap them out again? Or is there an upgraded part number to replace these?
Thermal compound should be used SPARINGLY for maximum effect. There should be enough to create a thin film over the entire mating surface. Too much compound reduces the heat transfer from component to heat sink. I buy parts from www.mainelectronics.com They are reputable and I can drop by on my way to work :-)
