Question about Tally Matrix T2280 Printer
It sounds like you may have a broken (or perhaps stuck) pin in the printhead. Check for missing dots in other letters also, or if printing a graphics object, again, a missing dot, consistent throughout the print. Other possible causes of a pin not being "fired", are a small break in the ribbon cable from the printhead to the control circuit. Look for a tiny crack or break in the ribbon, especially along the edge. Also, a defect in the electronics which control the printhead pins will cause this. If by chance the printhead is all gooped up with old ink, a pin might merely be stuck. I have taken printheads out of dot-matrix printers and soaked the pin area (area closest to the paper) in rubbing alcohol, or used Chemtronics cleaning chemicals to spray off the old sticky ink. Messy job: don't wear a clean white shirt! Lastly, if a pin is broken, either the printhead must be replaced, or sent in for repair, assuming repair centers still exist. In years gone by, I have sent in heads, and gotten them repaired successfully.
