I bought my Mitsubishi VS-60607 Projection Screen set new in Dec. of 2000. The set was delivered and set up by the reliable store I bought it from and has never been moved since. Now 6 1/2 yrs later I've noticed that images that have a primarily white background are very dark/dim colored. Normal program viewing seems to be fine but when a commercial airs with mainly white in it the pic is very dark. Now I'm noticing that after turning set on the color is sort of 'muddy' for 5 to 10 minutes. I have never had any problems with this set before, and have noticed these problems just within the last couple weeks. I'm hoping this is simply a projection lamp going bad. I played with the convergence settings tonight but was no help. I'm no TV repairman by any means but am pretty adept with electronics in general, especially computers (low-voltage!) I'm not afraid of a soldering gun or multi-meter but have not played with osciliscopes and the sort. Any suggestion of where to look or what to check in detail would be greatly appreciated... schematics, part #'s ect. Thank you all for taking the time to read through this and and an even bigger thank you for any and all advice/help.

tube has a reservoir on the front of it with a fluid in it. this keeps the face of the tube cool.
this depends on how bad the damage is in the tv. in most cases we can reseal the tube and clean up the fluid 400-600.
Once you
take the tube out you will see where it leaked. The problem is that the
frame on the CRT that the heavy screws with springs are mounted on (that
hold the lens coupled to the CRT) is weak and they can bend. We have seen
several that have leaked after the customer moved the set. You can only
tighten them down so much because the frame bends. It is just stamped metal
and not welded at the corners to support the bend.
We remove the CRT, clean it all up, add a very small amount of RTV sealer to
the gasket, reassemble, let the RTV cure thoroughly and refill with coolant.
The extra sealer should prevent future leaks. Haven't had a recall yet.
Mits says replace the CRT...too costly.
You msut check the yokes carefully as well. If any coolant gets into them
you can end up with shorts there and a mess.
other wise this is common problem too.
