What kind of dvd's can be used in this dvd player?
So far only the original dvd could record on the player. What kind of dvd's can be use with this unit? I have tried sony 1x-16x ,memorex 8x , and fugifilm 8x and none have recorded. It continues to say disc not recognized and ejects.
That will write on -R or -RW ONLY ... for +R or +RW disks, it can read but not write.
You can see this on the recordable media section on this page:

You need to FINALIZE the DVD-R you recorded in that unit for it to be playable on other DVD players. This function should be part of the on-screen menu for your unit. (in Panasonic DVD recorders, it's under DVD MANAGEMENT in the FUNCTIONS menu).
If the disc you recorded is already loaded, but stopped, press SETUP on your remote - an on screen menu should appear.
Using the UP/DOWN arrow keys, select DVD MENU and press ENTER. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys again to select FINALIZE and press ENTER.
A message box will popup 'Finalize disc?' use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select YES then press ENTER. Finalizing should start and may take a while to complete.
Once complete, the disc is now playable on other DVD players. (from page 32 of the owners manual with the heading 'PLAYING THE DISCS IN OTHER DVD PLAYERS')
You should use a specific DVD lens cleaner for your recorder, there are generic ones available I am sure. I do not recommend CD/DVD lens cleaners - far too abrasive, and there is a risk of damage to your unit if you use this type.
A generic DVD lens cleaner should do no harm and does not cost a lot. The type of cleaner I have used in the past is exactly like a DVD disc, with fine bristles, is a dry type, and it gently removes the grime and dirt film from the lens eye (you can probably obtain a wet and dry type that comes with a small bottle of fluid). These are the most reliable, and, unlike original CD lens cleaners, are far less abrasive. These lens cleaners usually work in DVD players and recorders, I've never had any issue after using this type.
Hi, Does it do with original DVD or copied DVD ?. if the original one works fine but the others not, your DVD may not capable of playing copy -R/RW discs..even though your DVD specs says: Plays DVD-Video, video-mode DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, CD-R/CD-RW, MP3 CD, Kodak Picture CD, and JPEG image CDs, sometimes this happens due to bad recording of DVD .Try to use better recorded DVD or if possible use the original ones.. Thanks in advance for rating me..Regards
DVD-R and DVD+R should play once recorded and finalized. RW of any kind is iffy and must be tested to see if they will work.
I don't think any dual layer DVDs will work, but I could be wrong. If you're taking about recording DVDs on this, it's not a DVD recorder as far as I know.
It's possible there is either a codec problem with your computer player. I would recommend trying a player such as VLC Media Player, to see if that works. If that isn't it, what kind of TV's are you watching the video on? Are they "tubed" or flat screen? If they are tubed, you wouldn't be able to see the line at the bottom like you do when you play the video on the computer.
There are different kinds of DVD recorders and different kinds of recordable DVD disks. Your disk must match the format of your recorder. (eg DVD -rw, dvd -r, dvd +rw, dvd +r). Look on the front panel of the emerson recorder and see what emblems are printed on it. Your dvd must match the kind. Also, if a dvd is of the -r or +r variety and has been finalized you cannot overwrite/rewrite to it. (From a quick web search it appears your dvd uses dvd -r.)
1.- Check the type of DVD that the recorder accepts, usually id DVD-R (minus R).
2.- Make shure is a DVD recorder.
3.- Internally, the DVD combo comes with a software that don't alow to copy VHS original movies, is a kind of codification that is with the information content in each movie.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY LG DVD RECORDER NOT EXCEPTING CERTAIN RECORDABLE DISCS .
NO GUARANEES BUT TRY GOING TO YOUR SETUP MENU AND RE-SET THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SETTINGS FOR THE RECORDER THEN PUT A DVD CLEANER DISC IN YOUR RECORDER TAKES ABOUT TWO MINS TO CLEAN UNIT THEN
TRY A BRAND THAT DOES WORK IN YOUR RECORDER OTHER THAN VERBATIM OR MAXEL . RECORD SOMETHING THEN EJECT IT . NOW TRY ONE OF YOUR MAXEL OR VIBATIM DISCS AND SEE IF IT WILL READ THIS TIME FOR RECORDING . GOOD LUCK .
