I purchased my medion md-1704 about 3 years ago and when I booted it up the first time it ran all the programs that were preinstalled but it would not allow me to add any new programs and kept giving me an error message saying something like there was a missing file on the source disc of the program I was trying to add. When I called the company they knew just what the problem was and gave me a website to download a patch which fixed it. A few months ago I reformated the drive with the factory disc which came with the computer and though it fixed the current problem it brought back the original problem and will not complete the loading of any new programs. Now the company says it knows nothing of this problem. A friend told me that he had heard the patch was to fix a compatibility problem the mother board had with windows at the time and that the company fixed the motherboard problem shortly after my computer was made.
Hi, can you pls try getting the motherboard details (model #/bios version/date of manufacture). This is normally (but not always) displayed at powerup after videocard info. If it is too fast, press Pause and copy the details. Bios version is normally on top while mb model is at the bottom. To continue booting, press escape. Another method is to run Bios Wizard @ http://www.esupport.com/bioswiz/index2.html or CTBios @ http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/CTBIOS.shtml. These are not your patch but are only utilities to determine bios and/or mb info. Pls post details soon as you have them and perhaps we can work from there. Good luck
