Question about Kenmore 72222 / 72224 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice maker not making any ice.

Recently, the ice maker quit working. Always worked fine up until a couple of days ago. The freezer is working fine and fridge side is cool. No issues with the temperature on either side. What are the first few specific things I can look at that are the usual culprits for this. We have not adjusted the water pressure and no major changes with water system have taken place. It sounds like the cycle gets shut on, just no new ice being made. Thanks for any help you can provide.

UN-PLUG YOUR REFRIGERATOR !!!!!! AND THEN ... THE FIRST THING TO CHECK IS FOR PROPER WATER GOING "INTO" AND "OUT OF" THE SMALL WATER SUPLLY SOLENOID VALVE (USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BACK OF THE FRIG.WHERE THE WATER LINE GOES IN. TRACE WATER LINE BACK TO ITS SORCE ... TURN "OFF" THE VALVE. USING AN ADJUSTABLE WRENCH, LOSSEN THE NUT AND ENSURE YOU HAVE GOOD WATER FLOW.LEAVE WATER "OFF" THEN GO TO THE BACK OF THE FRIG. AND REMOVE THE NUT ON THE "SUPPLY LINE SIDE" OF THE SMALL WATER SOLENOID VALVE.... THERE IS A STRAINER AND ORFICE JUST INSIDE THAT CONNECTION ... CLEAN IT !!! DO NOT POKE A LARGER WHOLE IN THE ORFICE. REPLACE ALL PARTS IN THE REVERSE ORDER THEY WERE REMOVED AND TIGHTEN ALL CONECTIONS. TURN WATER SUPPLY BACK "ON".AND PLUG REFRIGERATOR BACK-IN. (ALWAYS WAIT ALEAST 15 MINUTES TO RESTORE ELECTRIC POWER TO ANY REFRIGERATOR). NOW JUST SLOWLY LOOSEN THE OTHER NUT ON THE "OUT-LET" SIDE LEADING INSIDE THE BACK OF THE FRIG. SEE IF YOU HAVE WATER. IF YOU DO ... YOU VAN NOW CHECK TO SEE IF THE SOLENOID IS WORKING.... JUST USE A BUTTER KNIFE AND PLACE IT NEAR THE TOP SIDE(COIL) OF THE SOLENOID ... YOU SHOULD FEEL THE "MAGNETIC PULL" ... IF YOU HAVE DONE ALL THE ABOVE AND YOU STILL HAVE PROBLEMS ... CALL A "LICSENED FACTORY-CERTIFIED COMPANY" TO DO A "FLAT-RATE" DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON YOUR CIRCUITS. ALWAYS GET A "TOTAL COST" ESTAMATE BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS OR SIGNING ANYTHING. NEVER LET A REPAIRMAN REMOVE AND LEAVE THE HOME WITH A DEFECTIVE PART AT ANYTIME HE IS THERE. (UNLESS THE PART IS UNDER VWARRANTY) NEVER BE AFFRAID TO WATCH AND ASK YOUR REPAIRMAN QUESTIONS. REAL PROFESSIONALS ARE HAPPY TO ANSWER AND SHOW YOU EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING... THATS BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT THERE DOING AND PROUD OF IT !!!!

My ice maker quit working.

Ice not being dumped out because the heating element designed to slightly melt ice so arms can push it out is non functional and needs replacement. Cheaper and better to replace entire unit at nominal cost.

I have a Kenmore side by side, model # 106.57032601 that I bought 4 years ago. The ice maker suddenly quit working. The refigerator/freezer work fine otherwise and I continue to have water from the...

Is your ice tray filling with water? If not, then I would suspect the water inlet valve (http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-10657032601/0582/0165000/K0607002/00012?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=10657032601 - Item 10)

If it does fill with water, but does not eject the ice cubes to start a new cycle, I would suspect the ice maker motor(Item 37). BUT if it is the motor, that part costs $91.22 and you can replace the entire ice maker (Item 100) for $157.95

Ice maker hasn't worked in years. A couple of days ago food below the ice maker was thawed. Today I felt that the ice maker was hot to the touch. Is there anyway to disengage the power to the ice make

Yes you will need to take the screws that mount the Ice maker to the side of the freezer and unplug the cable plug that is hidden behind the back of ice maker. The only time that element is needed to become hot is the moments before the ice maker drops ice. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice Maker stopped making ice - water dispenser is fine.

well first the icemaker valve and water despensor valve a separate so you might want to try but to change it out you have to change both valves cause they made together then also check and makes sure your tube is not froze up and if that aint it then change your icemaker now for a little tip the icemaker will not run as long as the freezer door is open

Regrigerator stopped, now freezer too.

It is due to the defrost timer is not working. Once it is replaced, you should be good for another year. The information is given by the repairman. I have this replaced two days ago. The MayTag part number is: 61005988.

SAMSUNG RS253BAWW NOT WORKING

the ice maker wont cycle untill the temp of the ice is around 10 degrees so if the freezer is at 15 or 20 due to some other malfunction then you will see the maker full of ice but it wont harvest and make another batch. so you could have a sensor bad, control malfunction, refrigeration issue, compressor, defrost system malfunction(you mentioned ice build up)
