Disc drive won't open. After backing up as a file on CD, pulled the cd from the tray and closed the tray. Now the empty tray won't eject. When the button is pushed, the green light comes on but the tray won't open.
If I may add to sandrew, it may be a hardware problem. Normally below the tray is a small motor that drives a belt/gear mechanism that ejects/loads the CD tray. Sometimes, the belt slips, is worn out or plain cut, whichever case, the tray won't come out. If you care to take the risk, remove it from your pc (assuming desktop) , remove the 4 screws underneath, carefully pry open the plastic fron and tray cover and check for mechanical/physical faults. It is also possible that something is simply lodged in between the gears. Should you like to try a temporary remedy, normally just below the tray is a pinhole wherein you can push a stiff but sturdy pin (straightened metal paperclip will do) till you feel something yielding. push gently but firmly and the tray should open partways. You may then manually pull it out and try loading/ejecting. If it won't load/eject using the normal switch, guess you're back to the first paragpraph. Hopes this be of help to you. Good luck.
All you can do is the usuall checks:- try, go to my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and go down the list to cd/dvd drives, click on the '+' and right click on your listed drive and select uninstall. restart the pc and then the drive will be re installed with drivers automatically. if it still won't eject then there is a drive fault.
