Details I have a problem with a Goodman Model GSH130601AA, ( 5 Ton, 13 Seer heat pump) central air unit, installed 06/15/2006. (I know, I saw online reviews but unit was put in before I saw negative e

The fan motor is bad and needs replaced. Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, you can replace it yourself fairly easy, the hardest part being the fan blade without a hub puller. Just take your old one in with you to a local A/C supply store. The compressor is more than likely kicked off on thermal protection because of the fan motor, happens every time. After the compressor cools back down, the overload kicks back in and the compressor will start. I would also replace the capacitor while I was there, just for preventive maintience because they go out all the time, plus they are cheap. Just make sure you have the full 220v to the unit before diagnosing the problem, and make sure it is completely off when working on it, capacitors hold a charge, just in case you didn't know already. As for the Goodman problem, people never give the full story behind these units. For one, it may say Goodman on the cover, but the motor and compressor are made by the same companies other brands use, just look at the compressor brand, probably a Copeland or a Bristol used in various brands. Two, the reason that there are more negative things said about these units are simple, more units sold, more people have them, there will obviously be more to talk about. Kind of like more money, more problems. Nothing is built like it was 15 to 20 years ago. Goodman keeps their price low by not advertising for the most part. And then you have units like Lennox that are supposed to be good, cost more to buy, and absolutely too expensive when repairing and finding parts. Just so you don't think I'm a Goodman rep or anything, I prefer American Standard equipment over anything else Ha! This is of course all from a service aspect from dealing with this everyday, but still just an opinion. I hope I have helped you and get you to cooler days, and sorry about going on and on, just thought you might like a view from someone on the inside! Have a good one and good luck!

4 year old goodman 3 ton residential air conditioner is not working properly. Air handler is running, evap fan is running but compressor is not coming on. Had similar problem a month or so ago and it...

Hi,
If the fan is running and the compressor is not running then you should be getting power to the compressor...
Often the dual capacitor will go bad and then the compressor will not start.
I usually change the cap to make sure that is not the problem.
If the compressor still does not start then check the start amps and you will find that you are probably getting locked rotor amps. or no amps... (open windings)
Either way you will have to replace the compressor...

Goodman ck36 1b a/c. Capacitor replaced 2 years ago. Unit is 13 years old and thermostat is Honeywell, also 13 years old. This summer there seems to be a 3-5 min delay (from when thermostat registers call)...

If you have a AC unit with electric or gas its doing what its supposed to do, let the pressures in the system equilize before starting again, If you have a heat pump its doing it there as well you just have not noticed. Anti cycling is a good thing, 4 to 5 minutes is normal.

We gave a Goodmn Hertz 60 Phase I heat pump - installed this summer....worked great for cooling..now that temps are dropping we are needing heat. When we turn it on it comes on but never heats. Think it...

If you changed the unit but didn't change the thermostat it is possible that the thermostat that you have will not work with that unit. I see that the unit you installed is a heat pump, you may have a straight cool T-Stat. If you put the T-Stat in the "Auto" "Heat" mode the outdoor fan and the compressor should be workng as well as the blower fan. If it turns out that the outdoor fan and compressor are not running you will want to buy a Thernostat that is compatable with heatpumps should be 2 heat/ 1 cool

New Goodman condenser unit run almost contiously using too much e

I'm not sure of the kilowatts. The 10 min on and 5 off is telling me there is to much heat by the thermostat or you house needs more insulation. The new compressor is designed for more efficient run time. The other thing is the unit to big for your house? It should run 10 -15 min when low humidity is in the house. Otherwise longer if its pretty warm inside.

Compressor fan not running

Does it look like the coils are frosting over? Is it steaming? Keep watching, after about 30 min does the fan come back on?

If yes to any/all the above then the unit is probably in defrost mode and yes the fan will stop blowing during that time, but restart when the unit goes back into regular heat mode.

During this time you will likely notice warmer heat from the vents than normal and the "AUX or EM HEAT" light will be on.

That is your backup heat system. It should automatically come on during a defrost cycle.

Inside blower not starting every time

That's a weird problem. I wonder if the outside compressor is drawing down the voltage in the breaker box enuff to keep the blower from starting up. If you're set to cool but the thermostat is NOT calling for the AC, can you manually turn the blower on fathfully? If so, I would check all wiring connections in the breaker box to make sure they are tight and free from tarnish or corrosion. You may even need to contact your power company and have a higher amperage line installed outside. Do your house lights blink noticably when the compressor kicks on?

While you're resolving this, you could start the blower manually and just leave it on. The compressor cycling on/off shouldn't stop the blower once it's running and it won't draw much current... couple bucks a month maybe.

Hope that helps...
