Question about Thomson Lyra PDP2842U MP3 Player

Failed to load system files...How can I reset?

When I turn the player on it says 'Failed to load files! Reset unit to resume operation. Update LyraHD system files if problem persists', and then it turns itself off. It says on the back to hold down the OFF button for 10 seconds to reset, but this doesn't appear to do anything when the unit is off, or if I press and hold it for for the couple of seconds it will come on for. Computer doesn't recognise that anything is being plugged in. I'm assuming it's died on me, but anything at all I can try? Not worried about recovering files, just want to have a working mp3 player!

    ho un thomson lyra da 20gb quando lo avio mi dice:bad or missing config.exe file. must update the lyra hd sistem files.

To reset you need to have MP3 switched on, THEN hold the off switch for 10 seconds.If this fails to reset.You may have some corrupted music files sitting on the harddrive.email [email protected] if you still have problems as i had the same issue and found a workaround.

Your post/description indicates a possible problem with the firmware. It would seem that the Archos 6052_bing.gif would load but fail to finish and there restarts itself. This could only be possible if somehow the firmware has been corrupted or you tried a firmware upgrade but failed halfway.

There are several versions of the 605, you need to determine which one you have.

Things you can try:
1. Do a soft reset. Press on the power button for about 15 seconds;
2. Do a full/hard reset by removing the batteries and pressing the master reset button;
3. Try again the Systems Recovery. You may need also to format the internal HD but that would mean you loose whatever data is inside.

Alternately, you may need to update/re-install the firmware. A more complete and better explained firmware update procedures are here. Briefly, you have to download and save in your PC the ???????.aos file (there are several versions of the firmware. You need to determine which one is appropriate to your model), connect your 605 to the PC, copy/paste (drag & drop) the said file to the Archos device listed in "My Computer" (you may have to overwrite the older copy), disconnect 605, proceed to System Settings, tap on "Update Firmware". Follow on screen instructions.


If the above is not corrective, am afraid that your unit has been partially bricked. Some have reported serious hardware or firmware problems with the 605 that would require replacement by the manufacturer.

1. Try a system reset: page 60
1.1 Turn the power on
1.2 Press the Reset hole on the bottom of the player.

2.2 Turn the power on
2.3 Press the Reset hole on the bottom of the player.

3. Windows update might be required: page 63
3.1 Press <Start> on the toolbar of your PC to run Windows Update.
Select Key Updates and Service Packs, then update all.
Reboot your PC and reconnect.


When you're connecting to a pc that has another Operating System:
1. Install the software matching for your OS on the computer.
2. Update your player withe the latest firmware if available.
Note: when reinstalling firmware all files (music, pics, videos) will be erased from the player.

Sansa e200 load main image failed

If this happened after updating your firmware, the Sansa FAQ from here http://www.sansa.com/support/sansa_e200/faqs says try this -

03. "Load image failed" appears after updating e200 firmware Applies to the following Operating Systems:
  1. Windows XP, Vista
This error may be caused by the firmware failing to load or the file system is corrupted.
STEP 1 – Reset the player
  1. Press and hold the Power button for approximately 30 seconds.
  2. Turn the player back on.
If the error persists, proceed to steps 2 and 3.
STEP 2 – Connect the player in Recovery Mode
  1. Turn off the player.
  2. Slide the Hold/Lock switch on top of the player so an orange color is showing.
  3. Press and hold the REC button and connect the device to the computer.
  4. A message will appear on the device display screen confirming the connection and a 16MB partition will be viewable in My Computer.
  5. Release the REC button.
STEP 3 – Download and update the firmware
  1. Download the firmware from the Sansa Forum.
  2. Open the zip file
  3. Extract all the firmware files to the 16MB-FORMAT drive.
  4. Disconnect the player.
  5. Slide the Hold switch to the unlock position.
  6. Turn on the player

I have a archos 504 that says recovery code 4.Then it asks if you would like to recover your system.The chocies are no ,repair disk and format disk. no matter what chocie you make nothing happens.

Firmware upgrade results in arclibrary boot failure

I managed to overcome the problem by doing a factory reset. Unfortunately doing this initially created more problems in that on reboot the main screen appearance looked as it should but was almost inoperable. When the usb cable was connected to my pc the disc did appear on My Computer . The system folder was only 1MB. By good fortune I had copied and saved my Archos files before I carried out the factory reset. Copying the original system files ( about 20MB) back to my Archos returned normal behaviour. Further, two additional buttons appeared. One was a manual arclibrary update button and the other a USB setup button . I cannot get file transfer to operate under windows media player mode and Windows media player 11. No problem though. I use PC hard drive mode and carry out a manual arclibrary update. None of this was possible prior to the factory reset. I believe I would still be having serious problems had I not saved and restored my system files

you are going to need the Drivers for it I had the same problem then I got the Drivers and it works great just go to http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=104 and download the two drivers and you should not have any problems

Failed to Load Files

I was able to access the play list using Windows Media Player. I was trying to get the computer to recognize the player, and it wouldn't do it. I even downloaded the Lyra Personal Audio Player updater... that didn't work or recognize the player.
Try the programs that are on your computer for playing MP3's.

Cannot turn on

You can reset your Lyra player at any time by depressing and continually holding the power button for a minimum of 10 seconds. Upon releasing of the power button, the unit should reset. If it does not, we recommend that you try again by depressing and holding the power button for up to 20 seconds. Constant pressure is required to depress the button for this duration. Second, download the latest firmware for your player. As for the unit freezing I figured out that it has to do with WMA files. try to re-coded your WMA's to MP3. I think it just has to do with the firmware not liking WMA very much. Use MP3 format only and I think you will be fine.
