The power light is on but I have no picture nor any sound. The power button on the TV and on the remote will not operate the television. To turn the power off, I must unplug the television. While the set is on, a faint ticking sound is heard from the rear of the set. Any ideas?

Re: No Picture No Sound
I think you have a short somewhere inyour set most likely the horizontal output transistor which may have shorted by the high voltage transformer going bad.
The faint ticking sound that you hear is the power supply trying to start but the shorted load won't let it.

I had the same problem on my 61" RCA TV... The switch for the power/channel changing buttons seems to be a faulty product... However if you are a little technical you can open up the front of the TV and disconnect the button panel from the tv and just use the remote to operate it.
The faint light indicates that there is not enough power being provided to the other circuitry as well the humming sound is a good indication that the power supply needs ot be replaced or repair. If your TV is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty.
