When the picture or the menu stays on the screen for a period of time after the image disappears or moves, is called image retention. The fix can be as simple as an adjustment. It may need a board replaced. The most common PCB for this problem is the Z sustain. It is the board that is in charge of erasing the picture. The SMPS or the Y sustain may cause this problem as well. Contact LG (800) 243-0000 for a servicer in your area. I Hope this helped.

Yes, it looks as if it is burning in the image but, this is common on lcd and plasma screens, but it cannot do any harm unless you freeze a picture and leave it for a period of time. You will tend to see it more with a black background but it is doing no harm and isn't permanent

I was told there was a way to fix screen burn within the menu, supposedly there is a feature that cleans the screen. How do I do this. Thanks David

Hi there,

Unfortunately there isn't a menu feature for this on LG LCD tvs..there is on LG plasma tvs. Screen burn is the fate of plasma tvs which is phosphur burn, whereas IMAGE RETENTION is the problem on LCDs after prolonged static image displayed caused by prolonged cell charge polarization.
What you could do is connect your PC monitor output to your TV serial input:
Create an image that all is white on your PC. Open Paint and create a big size screen and save it as JPEG.Right click on your desktop>properties>screen saver tab. Choose my picture slide show> the settings>browse the picture you made and modify any settings your prefer your your screen saver.
Hope this helps

On a 45 lg plasma what are white wash and orbiter functions in special menu

These are different effects that will come on to the screen to help prevent plasma burns. It is a similar idea to a screen saver on your PC if the image is static for too long.

WESTINGHOUSE FLAT SCREEN TV

Water damage/stains possible on backlight panel behind LCD panel. I've seen this more on laptops. Does it look like brighter white spots? You might have to take it in to have it professionally cleaned.

If this is on the screen itself, this is difficult. The screen has an antiglare coating. If it is an LCD set, the screen is polarized.

If the stain is on the cabinet, you may be able to remove it with polishing compound for acrylic paint. Turtlewax makes a very good polishing compound for this.

Follow the instructions for the polishing compound to use it to remove scratches and stains on plastic and painted surfaces. There is no guarantee if it will work very well on the surface or not.

If you really want to fix a scratch or stain, you can buy the replacement parts from the manufacture that are damaged. This will require some service work, but it can be done.
