DVD Malfunction I place a DVD - Commercial - Purchased from Sams - Display says "loading" - then I get a "no disc" error? Purchased TV with VHS/DVD feature 3 years ago. Just clean it with a commercial cleaner from COMP? What?

If cleaning the lens doesn't help, you may have to try cleaning the slide that the laser assembly slides on. This would require taking it apart. When the DVD is inserted, the laser must read the index. If it can't then you get a "no disc" message. If this fails then the laser pick-up assembly may be bad or you have a problem on the circuit board. Stargazer Stargazer

Is the VHS tape you are trying to record a commercial VHS tape (movie)? If so, it may have copy protection on it. The recorder is probably programmed to prevent you from making and using DVDs of commercial copy-protected VHS tapes.

I have just purchased a Magnaox ZV247MG9 and to convert VHS to DVD and my first DVD is blank. All the connections are made and I followed the manual, but am confused as to what happened.
I hope you have resolved this by now but in case you haven't: The only thing I can think of is that the disc was not compatible. Make sure to use one of the discs listed in the manual.

you have a faulty SYSCON MICROCONTROLLER.+faulty associates circuits, like CLKS, RESET.
you must go to the repair shop TV for fix it.
However you can try as the last thing before to go the repair shopt, Clean tHE VHS+DVD, with tape cleaner+disc cleaner too.and Proof

see the cause and fix it:
1 alternative for playing DVD:
  1. No disc. - Load a disc into the tray.
  2. Disc has been loaded upside down. Place the disc with the label side up.
  3. Disc region code does not match region code of the player.
  4. Disc type is not the correct type to play.
  5. Disc is damaged or dirty. Clean the disc or try another.
  6. Moisture may be condensed inside the unit. Remove the disc and the leave the power on for one or two hours.
2ND ALTERNATIVE: FOR VHS RECORDING:
play the VHS TAPE CLEANING , FOR clean the sensors, rollers, drum etc.
b) Try it.
c)Otherwise you must go to the repair shop TV for fix it.

I've had this unit ewr20v4 for about 5 years, never tried to copy from vhs to dvd until now. I get error message, unable to copy to this disk. called CS they offered an upgrade disc but will charge me...
You have a VHS that uses copy protection. Your unit is designed for copying self-authored DVDs, like you make from iMovie or another app, to VHS. It won't work with commercial VHS tapes with copy protection. The upgrade is probably a decoder circuit, and may be worth it if you plan to use your unit this way often.

I have an older VHS/DVD Polaroid DVS2000 player. Purchased second hand. VHS works, DVD after loading gives this message, "Unknown Disc."
You can try cleaning with a dvd disk cleaner but, generally when this happens the laser assembly needs replaced. You can try a local repair shop but, most people will just buy another DVD system.

VCR DVD Recorder not dubbing
I called the manufacturer and realized I was using the wrong type of recordable DVD disc to dub to. Non copy protected VHS tapes dub just fine as long as I'm using the proper disc.

You cannot burn a DVD on the XBV243. It is NOT a DVD recorder. You CAN record onto a VHS tape from a DVD (copy-protected commercial DVDs cannot be recorded)
