Question about Kenmore 50522 / 50524 Side by Side Refrigerator
Unplug refrigerator, take off bottom cover in back (cardboard). On side of compressor (big round and black) is an electrical component called a compressor relay. Use a screwdriver to pry the entire block off the side of the compressor. Shake the block. If you hear it sound like a rattle, you need to replace it. Bring it to a refrigerator/appliance supply and get a new one. If yours is the original, the new part will look a little different, but just follow the directions. Trust me I just went through this and the part was $45, not $260 like sears was trying to get.

I'm nel21, I posted my problem Nov. 1 2008, and the solution was exactly what Solution #2 by dwester suggested. I spend only $45 and saved wasting over $250. Thank you for your help!

Kenmore side by side model 5350 warm both sides. Was making a high pitched noise, then a faint click.
The unit is not blowing cold air. We removed the front cover and cleaned the grille. It was filthy. Then plugged the unit back in. It made a click so we turned it back off. The unit is only 3.5 years old!
I have a 4 years old refrigerator. It only blow warm air.
I have a 4 years old refrigerator. It blows warm air only.
coils are freezing but keeping cold no water to ice maker bought new heater still doesn't work neither parts are cold
Had the same problem with my Kenmore refrigerator (was not cooling anymore); came to this site - solution #2 by dwester was exactly what I needed. Compressor relay was broken; bought replacement part for $48 (had to go to specialty parts store). Wasn't exactly the same as the original, but was still relatively simple to replace. The freezer is now working perfectly. Thanks!
