Question about Sabrent (USB-2535) (USB2535) IDE Controller
I have Sabrent IDE-to-USB cable, model usb-2535, and I would like to connect it with a 2.5 inch drive. I have 2 questions: 1. How do I plug in the drive correctly? There is no indication of what's the right direction. I can plug in having the jumper pins on either the left or right side, but I think there is only one right way. 2. How does the drive get its power? If I plug in a 3.5 inch drive, I can use the power supply that comes with the cable. But there is no place to plug in the external power supply for the 2.5 inch drive. Is the voltage from the USB port enough for the 2.5 inch drive?
1) You will do no harm by reversing the connector, but the PC won't "see" the drive at that point (if your drive has an activity LED it will be permanently ON if the cable is reversed) 2) Most times the USB will have enough power to drive the HD all by itself, but if you are going through a hub that may not be the case. In that situation, plug the device directly into a USB port on the PC.

I have a ubs host controller that needs to be connected to the hard drive, but I don't know the part name that connects to the host controller, or if this the right or not.

Well, I've got the same product and fugured that 2.5" drives work
OK with it only if 40 to 44 pin adapter with power connector used.
The 44 pin connector built into USB-2535 controller is useless.
Also connection steps should be followed meticulously:
Step 1: Connect USB-2535 adapter to a HD (3.5 or 2.5 with 40/44 pin adapter) -red LED will be "ON"
Step 2: Connect low side of the power supply to HD.
Step 3: Plug power cord into el. outlet.
Computer will see your HD as USB Mass Storage Device.
