This could be the Ink Overflow Protection Error. If it is you may need to get a Rescue Kit for your machine form http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com Does the status monitor or LCD indicate that parts inside are past there service life?

Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

Did you open it up and look for paper jammed in it, or maybe it mispulled and just needs to be reset. Inkjets are fairly simple.

Hi,
Unfortunately a "general error" is different from the commonly assumed "service required" error.
Usually a general error comes about because of something a bit more serious than a paper jam which stops the printhead from moving around as it should, cartridge chips not reading properly, etc...
It's worth trying the following and seeing if any of them help
Beyond that it's a case of looking for clues that might indicate where the problem lies.. ie: if the printhead stops in a particular place, screeching noises, etc...
Hope some of that helps narrow it down some.

unplug, and replug the power cord, then try to power on, after that try to open the carriage and check for any obstructions that maybe locking or obstructing the path of the printer head from moving left to right.
