When connecting my Powershot Pro1 to the computer, the computer recognizes the camera and attempts to download the photos. However, it cannot import the photos as it says they are an unrecognizable file type. These are .JPG files that the computer normally accepts. I have a different Canon digital camera and its files download fine. I have had the Powershot Pro 1 camera for 7 years with no problems and this has just occurred.

Dear customer,
You would have got the Installation cd along with the camera you should install that first and then connect the camera to the pc and then browse the software to retrieve from the canera.
Thankyou

If your computer has a SD card reader, you might be better off putting your memory card into your computer and just copying the data.
Have you made sure your iPhoto is up to date? Perhaps a new update caused this problem.. Maybe you should try an older version of the software. Also, you might want to try other software. (I think you are on a mac?), you might want to try the software that came with the camera, if it works on your computer.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Drag the photos from the camera's folder into your designated folder.
