Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
Hello, I have a 56" JVC ( model #AV-56wp74) and when I turned it on today it appeared to be extremely out of focus. I ran Auto convergence from the menu screen and it didn't help any. everything appears double on the screen ,any word that appears you can read twice one of the appears where it should be and the other at a different angle in a different color. Is this a problem that I can fix or is this something that should be done by a repairman? Thank you for your help in advance, I really do appreciate it
The convergence ICs probably have a cracked solder joint on the foil side of the circuit board. Re-flowing the the solder would help. I will always replace the convergence ICs when doing this job. The labor remains the same and you will have to pay a few extra bucks for the parts. To fix this yourself, you will need to be able to identify the two convergence ICs,in this model they are in the front of the set, have a basic knowledge of electronics and be able to use a soldering iron (Use a dielectric compound when changing any IC attached to a heat sink). You will also have to do an alignment through the service menu. To find a servicer in your area go to: http://maps.jvc.com/cAscList/ It's the JVC servicer locater site. Call the repair shop listed and ask them what they charge for a convergence job on your set. That should help you decide which direction to go. Hope this helps.
