Question about Brother MFC 3420C All-In-One InkJet Printer
Hey I have a Brother MFC 3420C Color Inkjet Multifunction its a All-in-one.When I turn it on Machine Error 41 goes a cross the screen.I was wourding what it meant and how I can fix it? One more thing, I don't have a USB cable do I need one and what does it do? Thank You Kayla
There have been numerous complaints about the dreaded Error 41 which means the printerhead is broke and must be replaced. It is a common problem with MFC 3420C machines and Brother are aware of the fault. Provided you have purchased your printer in the last 2 years, they will have it repaired free of charge. Otherwise, you will have to pay for the new printerhead and the service engineer the cost of which is twice the cost of the printer. Just throw out the machine and never buy a Brother again. What makes me mad is that Brother knew of this fault very early on but continued to sell it instead of withdrawing it from the market.
I believe there is a class action suit against Brother in the US.

Hi, According to the User Manual any Machine Error (XX or in your case 41) refers to a mechanical problem. You have to call Brother Customer Service (USA: 1-800-284-4329; Canada: 1-877-BROTHER; Montreal: (514) 685-6464. You can also try checking out the machine, if it is new, check that all the plastic/tape retainers are removed (outside and inside); it is also possible that there is a locking lug/nut or screw somewhere (most likely underneath) that is only needed when in transit or when shipped that must be removed/opened/released when the machine is to be in operation. The USB connection is essential, it is the PC interface (and normally should be included in the box but can be bought from any computer outlet). This is how your PC communicates what it wants to be printed to your 3420C. Hope this works for you. Good luck.
