Sounds like a poor connection in the control or a faulty control module, I would return it as faulty for a new one. They seal those units up pretty good so we can't fiddle with them. Everyone gets a lemon sometimes.
The battery in these units lasts about 3 years. If your unit is new, be sure the unit is ON (indicated by orange light in front) while being charged. Also, be sure to turn it OFF when not in use or the battery will be depleted (even if not used). The good news is that the battery is easily replaceable. Removed the 4 phillips head screws from the bottom of the unit. With a little persuasion the bottom will come off, and expose the battery. Pull the battery out until the terminals are exposed and remove the wires attached to them. You can use needle nose pliers to assist if they don't come off easily. Purchase a replacement battery online or at your nearest batteries plus store, install and continue to enjoy your boombucket. The battery is 12V 3.3AH/20HR Lead acid type.
Make sure the camera is on, and the selector is on the 'setup' spot. Batteries should be fresh, and a memory stick should be in the camera. What does the manual say? You can also have the computer search for recently attached hardware.
The first thing to do is check that the charger is putting out the correct voltage, which should be ~18 volt. Then try to start it without the battery. If your voltage is OK and the battery out makes no difference, then I would suspect that you have a motherboard problem that must be fixed. If the computer starts up if you wiggle the DC plug where it goes into the computer, then it's the DC jack that is looks and must be re-soldered.
Let your computer run out of battery(until it shuts down) then plug it but don't turn it on... let it charge for about 2 hours. Post here if it worked.
Id try to find another power supply to plug into them with the same voltage. Usually 9-12 volts. Walmart, radio shack, or kmart have universal power supplies you can purchase to test them. Maybe keep the receipt and return it on the chance that it still doesnt work(in which case you'll need a new set of speakers).
