1. answer is yes 2. You may download/transfer the video files with a special sync. cable provided by radio shack. RCA jacks are not an option in this case.

SOURCE: Download video from camcorder to computer.

buy a dvd player/recorder. plug the camera into your usual jacks(rca) and record.. you can then use that disc on your computer to do whatever editing you want.. that is if everything is compatible

To transfer video you need to use firewire, not usb. If you use firewire to connect, set the camera to the 'play' icon and then open up a capture program (ie, movie maker) you should be able to just record/capture from there. Good luck!

Trying to find a cable for my sony hI8 model number ccd-trv68 to go from my camcorder to my computer?

This is an analog camcorder - not digital. Therefore, the only cables you can use are the RCA types for audio and composite video. The computer must have an adapter board or allow RCA inputs (analog).

Hi8 won't eject cassette

There is a broken plastic part inside the cassette and needs to be replaced. Mostly due to cassette tape improper position and camera jam (tape jam).

Getting footage from a cassette onto a mac

Sorry but the only way to transfer the tape is to be able to play it in a compatible camcorder or player. Then use one of the analog to digital converters "available on the internet" to transfer it to a PC.
Best bet is to ask some friends if they have an old camcorder that will be able to play that video cassette for you.
Sidenote: If the cassette is fairly new it might already be recorded in digital format, in which case you only need a compatible camcorder or player and a USB or Firewire cable to import it into your Mac

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote if the answers you seek are helpful.

Sony handycam video cassette

To the best of my knowledge 8mm VTR's have not been available for some time now. On the other hand there are plenty of Hi8 cameras and players available after market. eBay is a great source. Keep in mind that Hi8 cameras and decks will also play standard 8mm video tapes.
There are also many video tape transfer services that will transfer your 8mm tapes to DVD or other formats of your choice. Just Google "videotape transfer service"

Your camera should be USB so just find a usb cable and plug it in.

You computer should reconise it as removable media and you can broswe your files there.

If its a memory card camera you can just buy a memory card reader and plug this in

Video transfer from sony handycam ccd-trv 308 hi8 to a computer

I have a sony handycam ccd-trv 308 hi8 analog camcorder and I was trying to transfer videos from it to my computer. However, when I plug the S-video cable to the handycam and my computer, nothing happens. Does my computer require a driver to recognize the handycam because I cannot find any in the sites of sony for my handycam's model. Or am I using the wrong wire?

Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...

What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.
