Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live with
the old map or buy the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR
Garmin before you load any maps.
You can get that FREE at Garmin here:

To download the latest unit
software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin
website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect
your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your
computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start",
"Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to
do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
Does this help? Let us know. Thanks.
Have solved this problem... for anyone else experiencing the same problem proceed as follows : With the unit switched off but connected to your PC, hold down the on button and keep it pressed until the screen reads "Pre Boot Mode" Keep the "on" button pressed and re install the software from the updater. This has worked for me and has updated the software, hope it works for anyone else.
Cheers

Hi and thanks for the info. I tried the reset but that did not work. I have managed to sort the problem as mentioned in my comment of Apr 21st, by connecting the switched off unit to my PC, holding down the "on" button and keeping it held down. When the screen reads Pre Boot Mode, reinstall the sofware from the updater and when that is done release the "on" button, and the unit should re boot correctly.
You may need an extra pair of hands to do this but it has worked ok for me !!
Cheers
