I have a fujitsu Siemens C6387 laptop which takes an age to start up. I dont mean the windows part of it, the first screen loads and has prompts at the bottom for boot list and bios settings etc, and then it does nothing for 5 minutes or more, then it loads windows in a reasonable time.
the problem must be something to do with the motherboard or the bios but i cant think what!! I have never come across a computer which takes this long to get to the point of loading and my first computer was an ibm XT 20 yrs ago. Can anyone help please?

Re: Fujitsu C6387 slow to start
What may well be happening is that a peice of hardware, eg usb ports, network adapter, graphics driver or similair is struggling to find the driver for it and is hanging the boot up.
It could also be a memory failure or a bios failure as the memory used by your system takes over after the first 64KB of built in bios memory.
Start your laptop in safe mode (press F8) on start up, as this will load up with only the needed drivers, if it boots up quicker it may well a driver fault, it is then a process of illimination.

hi you must disable the main screen in properties section of the display panel then when you start up the computer the screen will not activate until windows has loaded and found and installed the screen drivers after that all should be good to go if you need any further help don't hesitate to contact me :)
Do you have the eMachines recovery disc? If so, then you need to enter the bios of the laptop by pressing a speciffic key at the start of the boot process. It should tell you what key to press in the POST. Most likely across the bottom of the screen somewhere. The F2 and F10 keys are popular as well as the Delete key. Once you get into the BIOS, Locate the menu containing the boot sequence. Make sure to set the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. Put the Recovery or Windows CD/DVD in the drive and follow the on-screen instructions.
