Question about Samsung SC-D107 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
My camcorder will not display video when in in record mode. There's no image in the LCD or the viewfinder. It looks like the lens cap is on. When recording, I get audio, but no video when reviewing playback. Camcorder will playback (display) previously recorded tapes just fine. Is this an optics problem or a electronics problem and is this something that's self repairable? Camera is out of warranty. I'm a computer technician, so I'm not afraid to open it up. thanks Derrick
I had the same problem with Samsung SCD103. It was sent to the factory January 2007($150.00) and everything worked fine until last week when the grandkids came down. The camera simply stopped displaying any image, the viewfinder went black. I suspect is a failure on the CCD. Now, I have a non-working camera that I've bought extra batteries for and lots of DV tapes. I won't buy another Samsung product now that I've seen the problems and apparent lack of concern for the customer!

I've had the exact same problem. Does anyone out there have an actual solution though? I mean, besides the obvious purchase of a new camera, Samsung should recognize this major problem. Apparently this isn't a freak accident judging by the amount of posts, but has anyone found a way to get theirs fixed without paying hundreds+ dollars?
These cameras aren't the newest things on the block, but they certainly aren't obsolete. This is pretty ridiculous.

When trying to videotape, I get a blue screen and 'stop'.....That is the first problem.
I was troubleshootng and figured it mus need to have the heads cleaned and got the recommended dry tape cleaner. I tried to follow the seemingly simple steps to clean the head but as soon as I put the tape in, the screen read 'protection', 'eject'. I spent sev hours trying to figure it out, incl taking it to two stores and we figured that we must have to unlock the 'protect' to clean it and after much messing around w/ it, did this and tried again but it then states only in m record, m mode
I can't use this and really need it fixed fast as it has been useless for two holidays now. Please help

I have the same problem on my SCD107. Samsung has a recall on defective CCD's, but insist that my SCD107 does not have the deffective sony CCD that was put in other models. They say my manufacture date is 1 month after the affected recall period. I used this camera maybe 20 times before having this problem.
The fee is $160 which includes the cost to ship it both ways. I went ahead and paid the money, cheaper than buying another camcorder, however I would not buy a Samsung camcorder again. It is obvious that many people are affected by this problem, and Samsung is not willing to completely resolve the issues with their customers.

No image on sreen. I have the same problem as above. Unit is about 2 year old with 5 or 6 tapes used. Now nothing. I will call the factory and attempt to have them fix this blatant and obvious error.

I have the same problem. I have had mine for 3 years. I have a 3 year and I didn't even get to record her Christmas morning. We are going on vacation and I would really get to use it.

A RECALL WOULD BE A GREAT SOLUTION SINCE I TOO AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT OR FAIR. I BOUGHT HTIS FOR MY WIFE 25TH WEDDING ANNV. USED THREE TIMES AND NOW NO PICTURE. SOUND BUT NO PICTURE. I TOO WILL PURCHASE A DIFFERENT BRAND.

I have the same problem and all of the info i have come up with from searching the internet is that the CCD is faulty. there are several model that seem to have this common problem, scd103/scd107/scd23/scd27 name a few. most people have complained that Samsung has not issued a recall even though is it seems so prevalent. many owners have stated the unit had very little use; i myself used it 3 times until i noticed this problem in my second year of ownership (out of warranty). some owners have fixed their unit by purchasing the CCD assembly from samsungparts.com for a little over $100. i have held off purchasing this part since i hardly use a camcorder; i will probably purchase another brand next time...

just stumbled on the (yet to be verified) solution while searching on subject again. www.samsungclassaction.com. if this is legitimate then Samsung will repair for free! (and refunds for people who already paid). the site asks for contact info but i worry about scams so i'm going to contact Samsung directly.
i hope this is real!
The affected models include:
SCD 23, SCD 27, SCD 103, SCD 107

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD
monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the
viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,
and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.
