BAD PICTURE QUALITY

I just bought a 960 to go with my samsung hp-5053 plasma display. I have tried a few recent dvd'd in the dvd player but everything is poor quality. Even the setup menu copy is jagged looking. I have tried several things but don't seem to ahve the answer. I used the hdmi cable supplied with the dvd. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Hi, I have a Samsung

Hi, Check the settings in the TV menu. Set the sharpness abit higher. Also if you have already you need a set top box (PVR) to view digital signal and to record it as well. Good luck.

Seems all flat panel TV's have bad sound mainly because there isn't room to put decent sized speakers in them, you can use the audio output RCA jacks to hook an external amp if you would like

Try disconnecting everything from the tv *except* the DVD player (that includes cable tv). You are using a component or digital connection, right? Some of these HDTVs are **** at displaying a composite feed. If this clears up the problem then the lines were probably caused by a fault in your cable tv, and you need to take it up with them.

ANYWAY, if the rolling lines remain even with everything else unplugged, it could also be electrical interference from something near by, like power cords or something.

It seems the DV-S5950 has an incompatability with HDMI through Samsung TV's.

I work for an electronics store in Australia, and had same problem when running this DVD player on my Samsung KA40A650.

I tried it on my brothers LA40M51 and the same thing happened. Tried it at work on the A650 display model and same thing again. Then I tried it on the LG LCD that was next to it, and no problems. Also tried the DV-S5950 display model at work and it did the same thing.

It's not a general Yamaha issue, as we bought a new (higher model) Yamaha DVD player and it worked perfectly fine. I also tested the cables, and it wasn't them either.

It seems that that specific model of DVD player from yamaha just doesn't like the HDMI inputs on Samsung TVs...

This is a very easy fix. Your cable box is not grounded correctly. To fix this you need a AC Plug adapter. This will change your TV ac plug from a 3 wire to a 2 wire. This may sound funny, but trust me on this. I have fix a lot of TV in NY doing just this.24001fc.jpg
