Question about Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Stopped working well here is the deal. I have a Magellan Roadmate 700 that has worked really well for about a year and the other day I was driving and it stopped tracking my position. Now it just searches for signals for ever and nothing seems to work. I just purchased the upgrade online and hope to get it soon so I am on version 5 but something tells me it still won't work. Ideas?

does the antenna just pull off? I do not hear a rattle so maybe that is a good sing. The reset did not fix the problem.

Your probably right about it still not working even after the 5.32 upgrade. Although it could be the software, so try resetting GPS user data. Enter into the "secret" menu by pressing the zoom out key and the repeat button while at the beginning user menu. select reset GPS data.. If it's nothing to do with software, check your antenna and make sure none of the pins inside the connection are bent.. or the RF cable inside could be gashed/cut.. bent up.. do you hear a rattle when you shake your unit?

    Mr. Confused,

The antenna does not just pull off. You'll need to fold out the antenna as far as it goes and then pull out from the base. It has to go back on in the same position. A cable inside your unit could have came loose or the connector itself for this cable on the board could have came off. At your own risk, carefully open the unit and follow the black (sometimes gray) cable to both sides. If when you try to unplug the cable, the connector on the board comes off too, then you know that was your problem. When you try to disconnect the cable though, pay close attention to only pulling on the cable and try not to pull on the connector that it's attached to. If the connector does come off with the cable, then take it to an electronics store to have them re-solder that connector back on the board.

Hopefully we can eventually figure out this problem.

I have a Magellan RoadMate 1412 that does not work. I have had it for a couple years. I don't know if the battery is dead. Where can I get it repaired?

you can either send it to Magellan for repair or take it to a decent localTV repair shop who will be able to have a look at it for you

My 700 gets stuck with the last map

Same problems, you have to update as far as I know and you have to update every year otherwise it will start to freeze up. It's a rip off because it's $99 a year. Does anyone know if the other GPS companies do this?

All navigation units are GPS Receivers - that is - they receive satellite signals. So, no there is no difference.

System works erratically

This can happen, as you probably know, when driving in areas of tall buildings - I have an extension aerial that sits on rthe car roof.

BUT BUT BUT.. these Magellan units are so poor compared to Tomtom and Magellan Support is RUBBISH!!!!!

I am at last binning my Roadmate 700 and am getting a Tomtom Go series which auto updates every time it's put on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.

Magellan roadmate 700 gps not working

Jossie, The cable that connects your hard drive to your main board could be loose. If it's not loose, then it's your hard drive. The only thing you can do (if it's not the cable) is send it in for a new hard drive. Unsure what the costs will be but the magellan logo screen is produced from memory on the main board while anything after that is when the hard drive takes over. -Daniel

RoadMate 700 GPS is not working..

Does the initial Magellan screen appear? If it doesn't display anything and it's just blue... :( Normally means that something on the main board is your problem. Which, means your out of luck. What happened to it? It just suddenly stopped working? Let me know. R/
