SOURCE: Major Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR Camera Problem!!!

The mirror box control mechanism needs servicing ( rubber parts have perished and are gumming up the workings of the mirror mechanism so shutter is not workingrking) . Unfortunatelly this requires complete strip down and so should be done professionally.

Yes the K100 uses LR44 or G13. I would recommend the G13

Others here have suggested the problem lays with the plastic gear on the advancing motor beside the mirror.

This might cost $100 or so...?

Lens zx 30

is the mirror stuck up? Lots of these ZX Pentax models have failure of the mirror motors when the plastic gear on the shaft of the motor cracks and then the motor just runs continously

Diopter focus viewfinder

The diopter adjustment control is just above the viewfinder. See page 23 of this manual: http://www.fixya.com/support/p154048-pentax_zx_30_35mm_slr_camera/manual-2619

I have a pentax zx-60 and i am taing a photo class how do i set the camera on maual but still be able to change the aperture

Use the exposure mode to metered manual mode using the [mode] button until the [M] is selected on the far right of the LCD screen.
The [M} is to the right of the [Tv] and [Av] selections.

Also, there is a switch on the camera body where the lens is attached... switch from AF to MF (UP position) (AutoFocus to ManualFocus).

The meter inthe viewfinder will continue to work so that tou can use the built-in meter to assist in your manual configfuration.

Good Luck! Photography is a great hobby and profession!

Black viewfinder

Slr mirror is stuck. remove the lens and try to slightly move the mirror up and down ( but not forcing it to move!)and pushing the shutter switch. Try also applying lighter fluid in the mechanism while operating or shooting, fluid will help loosen the stucked mechanism.

Can't see out of viewfinder

The mirror motor is probably the problem, you'll usually hear a whirring noise like a motor spinning. It's about a $125 repair, requiring the mirror box to be removed and the mirror driving motor replaced. Pentax originally put a plastic gear on the motor shaft - the replacements have a brass gear.

Optio X visual defects

I've not seen any such defects on my Optio X, although I don't use flash much. The some-300 photos I've taken so far are completely clean. Sounds like dust on the CCD. Might warrant a return to Pentax.

Viewfinder

I don't know how to answer your question, since I haven't yet experienced that phenomenon. It sounds like it's just caused by the nature of the lenses used. Since you are new to the camera, I'll just warn you that it is not perfect in any way, but every function of it is very good, so the end result is amazing, and I might even say perfect. This is just the nature of the Pentax dSLR for now, and it seems that it's a Pentax thing in general. You'll find lots of dSLRs that can outperform the Pentax in one or two feature comparison tests, but if you lign up all the features of one camera and compare them with the Pentax you'll find the Pentax will beat any camera out there. It is just so well balanced, and each feature really is good enough, which adds up to a LOT. I'm sure somebody here will explain the problem you're having, and if you're like me you'll just make a few adjustments and be satisfied with the results. Post some shots too, that's an excellent way of getting feedback that will help you make the most of your Pentax. I wouldn't trade my Ds for any other camera out there even costing 10 times more.
