Dell Dimension 8400 PC"s use either Broadcom Extreme Ethernet controllers OR, on SOME models of the 8400 that do NOT have ON-board Ethernet connections, SMC Networks Ethernet Drivers. I've seen MANY a Dell Dimension.

Sounds like the driver for the TV Tuner is not installed, or the video and audio drivers may not be installed properly.
Mine was always a bit wonky in XP, works like a charm in Vista or Windows 7 though
If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.
Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
Install the XP Pro first, install the necessary drivers etc. Then after that load the other disk for windows XP Home install it choose the drive to install the OS, install the necessary drivers etc. you will see two operating system while going to boot section of the computer.
Go to the command prompt. click run adn then type cmd and then click ok.
on the command prompt type chkdsk /r /f then press enter, then a small window will pop uo saying that you need to schedule a scan after the computer reboots, just click ok or yes. after that restart the computer. This will check the HDD for bad sector or bad cluster and then fix it, this may take time depending on the problem (if there is). I do not think it is cause of virus for you can use it for over a month, mostly if you are infected your computer will not last long.
